Today Hayley woke up complaining that the back of her neck was hurting. It was like that all morning so mommy took her to the hospital. I went with too. There was no way I was leaving my sister.
When we got the hospital mommy and I waited while the doctor took Hayley in. I was really nervous so I sat close to mommy.
"What's wrong with her mommy?" I asked.
"I don't know Annie," she said.
"What if its something bad! What if she dies!" I wailed.
Mommy stroked my hair. "Shhh its ok," she said.
We waited for like a half an hour until the doctor came and called our name. We walked back to Hayley's room and saw her on the bed, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"I'm afraid your daughter has cancer," said the doctor.
"No!" I sobbed, running over to her and hugging her.
"It's ok Annie," Hayley said, though I could tell she was scared herself.
I saw mommy sobbing. "My baby girl!" She cried.
"Please Hayley don't die!" I said.
"I won't," she promised.
I looked her in the eye.
"Forever?" I said.
"Forever," she promised.
I sobbed some more and spent the night at the hospital with Hayley.
