Rose's POV

The silky spring wind blew as my knotty strawberry dirty blonde hair whipped around in it. I always loved to run up and down the hill to the old oak tree at the top of the greenest hill I have seen in North Eastern Texas.

Every day before the sun set I would run up the hill to the oak tree with the tire swing and meet my love Jack. We would meet up on the hill and climb the tree to watch the sun set the stare up at the stars to make shapes.

When I got to the top of the hill, I glanced around and noticed he wasn't there. So I climbed the tree to look out onto the field where his puny house stood, only to see that there was a black chevron truck at Jack's house. Jack was being dragged out of his house by a military man wearing clothes that normally meant " we are taking your child because we need recrutes, and you might not see them again"

I almost broke my foot jumping from the tree to see Jack one last time before the tears started to drizzle down my cheeks. I ran and ran to get to the field to say an important thing that has been bugging me since we first met. The field was moist like they just watered it but the rocks shattered my smoothness when they started to stick to the bottom of my foot and I would put more pressure on them every time. Jack was being told to wait by the truck when I started to get close.

I jumped inside the back of the truck and whispered in his ear  " I love you"
I saw a tear start to form in his left eye. He turned around so quickly I think he got whiplash. He told me in very quiet voice " Don't forget about me when I'm gone, I shall write letters for you , I shall come back some day to propose to you by the old oak tree. Just wait for me on this road and I shall come home for you, my true love".

Another couple tears shed my eyes as the commander came out Jack's rusty door that still squeaks ever since he moved in.

Jack and I have been best friends since we were 12 we are now 16 and he is leaving me, ( even though he has no choice ) after all that we have been through.

I quickly jump out of the truck onto the rocks to avoid the chief. And started to run out to the moist field again to wash the rocks off my bloody feet.
