Sarah looked up into the doctor's eyes. Her vision was blurry from the tears that threatened to fall from her eyes. The doctor looked back, holding her gaze until the room was filled with so much anxiety that you could cut it with a knife. After what felt like hours Sarah's mother who was sitting next to the hospital bed cleared her throat disrupting the silence in the room.

Sarah looked away from the doctor, over to her mum and then turned her gaze towards the clock hanging on the pale blue wall behind the doctor. 2:15pm. As Sarah watched the seconds tick by the sound of the hand moving engulfed her and Sarah saw the events of yesterday replay again in her head.

The sun was beaming down on Sarah warming her face and making everything from her fingers to her toes hot and tingly. Her car stereo was blaring and filling Sarah with positive vibes. Everything was perfect. It was the perfect start to the summer holidays that Sarah has desperately needed and wanted.

It was a peaceful drive from Sarah's house to the beach, which was unusual. The road was lined with tall, green trees either side with houses hiding just behind them. The road was usually quite busy but today it was like everyone decided to stay home with their air conditioners instead of spending the day in the hot sun. Sarah was just pulling away from the green traffic light shining in front of her when suddenly there was a screeching noise that pierced through Sarah's body. Then there was the crash and crunch of Sarah's car being T-boned and that was when she felt the impact of the front bumper of the other car hitting into Sarah's side of the car.

The replay of the accident stopped and Sarah was forced back into the cold, crisp white bed sheets of the hospital room. The bright lights of the hospital room hurt her eyes so Sarah tried to move her hand to cover her face. Nothing happened. She tried again. Still no movement.

Sarah looked up into the doctor's eyes to see that they were filled with sadness and sorrow.

"You're paralysed from the neck down, it's possible you'll gain movement back in your arms and torso but you will never walk again. I'm sorry."

Those were the last words Sarah heard before everything went black...
