The boisterous laughter of children surrounded us as Cora and I stood outside the daunting corn maze.
"You ready?" My fourteen-year-old sister asked.
"Yah, what's so difficult about a corn maze? We'll be out before the last hour of the carnival's over!" I nudged her shoulder. Since I was sixteen, I had to watch and make sure my sister stayed in line.
As we entered the corn maze, we heard the ear-piercing howl of an Irish wolf, and I saw Cora shiver beside me. I grasped her hand and pulled her into the maze.
-One Hour Later-
I hugged my jacket closer to my body and looked up at the large, blue moon. Every howl of the wolves sounded like the screams of those being tortured in the burning pits of hell. The fat tears rolling down my sister's face were continuous, and her body shivered with a fear greater than anything I could pacify.
Holding her close to me, I took a turn and a few strides later were met with a dead end. I raked my fingers through my hair and groaned. How do I find a way out of here before the wolves find us? Suddenly, I heard a whimper beside me.
"Declan? Look behind you." Cora's accent was thick, and the fear it procured caused a hiatus in my thoughts.
Turning around, I met eyes with one of the huge, somber creatures. It crouched into attack position, baring its huge, gleaming fangs, and vehemently growled. Closing my eyes, I prepared for the worst as it jumped. But nothing happened. I opened my eyes and turned around, and watched as one of the beasts dragged my sister away, and trembled as they began to surround me.
