Wrong Coordinates

Stillan

The half-naked girl reaches into a drawer beside her and pulls out a wooden hair brush. She holds it up as if it's supposed to threaten me.

Her hands shake. "Who are you? What just happened? I'm not afraid to defend myself!"

I lift an eyebrow. "What are you going to do? Bend me over your knee, call me a bad boy, and spank me? Because, I could be into that." I grin as a red blush scatters over her body. The way Earth girls' underclothes have changed since the last time I visited here shows a massive time difference. I wonder if Tylek's potions helped keep him young.

I look over my shoulder at the way her closet door leans on the end of her bed. Grabbing it, I move it back into place. "Sorry for the abrupt intrusion miss, I wasn't expecting a spliced scum to follow me. I think my coordinates are off. Unless you're a lover of Tylek's?"

"I. . . Who?" she stammers.

"So that's a no. The locater spell was supposed to bring me within his general vicinity. It's time I brought him back home so he can report any evidence about finding the Ember." I shouldn't be telling her all this, but by the time I find Tylek and leave, she'll think it's all been a strange dream.

"The Ember?"

"A human part of the Radiance bloodline. We sacrifice them to the Void and it will return health to our land."

She nods with hesitation. "Oh, it sounds very Mayan."

"It is. How do I get out of here?" She points toward another doorway as she stumbles to sit in the chair next to her.

I walk through it to find another doorway down the hall. That must lead to the outside world. Tylek has to be around here somewhere. The location spell never goes miles off course. Though, I had a humarep trying to stab me in the back while I did it.

I don't have time to search all of Earth. The portal will close soon. Who knows when another one will open to Earth?

I go through her front door and place my hands together. I chant the location spell again. A line of light spreads out on the floor leading to the door with 209 on it. It then breaks away from that line and goes down the hall to the stairs. He lives there, but isn't there now. That's why the location spell messed up the location. It couldn't transport me to his house because there was no one living inside to hook onto, but if he's out in public that wouldn't have worked either, we need to keep magic and our world hidden from Earth.

I follow the light, I need to find him. The King's impatient. It's been ten years in our world, but I can tell it's been a lot longer here on Earth. He's had to find something by now.

"Where are you going?"

I glance over my shoulder at the girl. She put her clothes on, dark blue jeans and a lacy top that still doesn't hide her bra. Apparently, they've lost their modesty.

"I need to find my brother Tylek before the portal pulls me back home to Militc."

She nods again. "I think I may have fallen asleep in class or something, because this has to be a dream, but I will go with it."

"Right, well go with it back into your living space. It's dangerous being around me right now. I could pull you into my world when the portal's ties yank me back."

She laughs. "Not going to happen. I want to see where this dream goes. It might make a good book one day."

I sigh. As long as I can get far enough away from her when the portal calls, I should be okay. It's best she continues to think this is a dream. I follow the light down the stairs and outside.

She taps me on the shoulder, stopping me before I step into street. Cars fly by, they've changed. "Do you know where you're going?"

"I'm following the location spell to my brother." I point to the ground before I remember she can't see it, she wasn't born in my world.

Her blue eyes follow my finger and stare at the ground. "Right. Well, I suggest you don't walk into oncoming traffic. Getting hit by a car can't be fun, even in a dream." She leans over and hits a button on the traffic light pole. I forgot they have those here. The cars come to a stop and she crosses, I follow. "So where's this line pointing. There is a lot of places around here that a person can hang out. What does your brother look like?"

"A lot like me." I follow the line for a few blocks and turn to the right. The line points into what appears to be a large store.

"Does he like indie music stores?" She asks as I peer through the windows into the store. I wonder if he's in there. He has always had an affinity for music. She stares into the store as well.

"Well, he's always liked music." I grab the handle of the door and pull. A whistle fills the surrounding air, climbing in pitch with every passing second.

The girl covers her ears. "What is that?"

No, I was supposed to get more time. The portal barely gave me fifteen minutes. "Get away from me. You can't be around when I get pulled back!" I yell over the frequency.

She steps closer, her eyes squinting at the noise. "What?"

I rest my hand on her shoulder to push her away. The pull grabs at the middle of my spine and inches through to the front of my body. Like a fish hook, it yanks while my hand still rest on her body, the magic fuses our energies. In a flash we move through the air and into her closet. "No!" I scream.
