It was a lonely night within the forest, a clear night above the peaks of the trees, not a cloud in the navy sky. The stars shone brightly above a lake, the water surface glistening brightly, and the calm reflection of a silver crescent being presented up to the sky.
Beside the pine trees aligning the coast was a tall mountain with a spiral peak, leaning down towards the ground and meeting the tree tips. At the top of the mountain was a flat area, with a river flowing through and a waterfall that leaked down towards the lake.
There was a cave within the mountain, a small cave with a small family of wolgan living within it, but it wasn't necessarily a family, it was a few bandits scavenging around. They thrived amongst these lands, away from all the factions that seemed to have claimed every other area they came to, so they were stuck with a small area of cleared rocks, which made for a crowded sleeping area.
In the little cavern, three wolgans sat around a fire, waiting patiently for something. The wind blew violently around them, stirring up leaves from outside as they danced the night away. The fire crackled and sent bits of the ashes flying out, sizzling before reaching the floor.
Obsidian, the alpha of the group bent his wings back in an unamused way, receiving a glare from Asteroid who then soon hissed at him whilst rolling her eyes. These two were the leaders, the ones who protected two others within the cavern. The young, cunning individual by the name of Beryl, and the curious youthful adult named Mercury. These two were distant friends, but secretly absolutely despised each other.
Mercury scoffed and set a plume of flames to light the fire again, his warm feathers fluffing as he stared onwards, his gaze landing on each of the wolgan who were present. He gulped, and stared at the ground whilst Obsidian bared his fangs, seeing as Mercury had something to say. He gestured his talons towards him, and sat back against the cold, stone wall.
"I am going to be leaving this den for a while, Topaz, my mate, is having eggs and I must be there to support her. She is the love of my life, and I cannot be bothered to be chained down to a group of outlaws while she is forced to deal with her- our young." He hesitated several times while spitting out the words, taking a deep breath before nodding to his thoughts, and waited for any objections to his leaving, but everyone stayed silent, aside from a hiss from Asteroid, but he ignored that.
"Goodbye," he said, his voice cracking with despair as he headed away from the cave. His wings spread out, and he launched himself away, and into the skies where he disappeared into the trees.
Obsidian snickered, "We don't need him anyways, he wasn't a valuable asset." He then split a branch in half with his bare talons, seeming to not mean the words that he said.
Asteroid nodded, and glared into the open where the moon shone down on the figure, swinging left to right through the air. She snorted, seeming amused by his horrible flying skills and techniques of keeping himself balanced.
They all veered their eager gazes towards the fire again, as it greeted them back to the warmness, waving into spirals. Ashes started to jut out of the flames, hitting the walls occasionally.
Obsidian was hit a few times, the smolders hitting his feathers, but it was not noticeable, as they were already midnight black. He had a large body build, and an angry expression on his face that made a stomach flip when he stared at them with his beady little orange eyes.
Asteroid, however, had light grey feathers that puffed out at the end of her tail, they had swirly golden stripes that coated her body, almost as if she was royal. Her eyes were a deep green, with a tint of orange to them. She had a slender body build, but her legs were unusually bulky.
