Chapter 2: Day 2

Counselor Spann woke up early the next morning. He immediately began to get dressed and ready to head to the hospital. His wife Andria was up cooking breakfast and making coffee. Aahliah and Melody were watching morning cartoons while waiting for the school bus to arrive. Timothy and Andria sat for awhile and talked about the events surrounding Marlon' beating and stabbing. Timothy told Andria about Marlon seeing Kayla after being beating nearly to death. Marlon told me that Kayla wouldn't allow him to die yet. He was near death and probably hallucinating replied Andria. No, I don't think he was hallucinating said Timothy. You should have been there to see the look in his eyes. I never saw him look that dramatic before. I do believe in what Marlon saw. He loved her and now he's all alone. Pastor Jones was there as well. He had an interesting insight to the power of love and Gods purpose for the bounds that we share with each other. Pastor Jones also believes that Marlon was with Kayla. Timothy noticed the clock on the wall hanging in the kitchen and realized that it was time to go. He kissed his wife and children before leaving for the hospital.

When Counselor Spann arrived at Walthall General he found his client very incoherent. Marlon was laying in his bed in a dazed like trance. Marlon wake up shouted Timothy! Can you hear me? Are you there Marlon? Timothy immediately pressed the nurses' button on Marlon bed. Then he started yelling out for the doctor. When Dr. Redmond and the morning Tammie entered the room they soon noticed the state that Marlon was in. Tammie checked Marlon vital signs which seemed to be normal. Dr. Redmond looked at Marlon' chart and noticed that he just received his morning dose of morphine for pain. Ok, said Dr. Redmond I see the problem. The patient recently received his morning dose of morphine. The dosage was a little higher than I would've liked but he will be ok. He just needs to rest for now. No can do doc said Timothy. He has to get ready for court. We have to be there in less than an hour. I have to strongly advise against that responded Dr. Redmond. Dr. Redmond wanted his patient to stay in bed. Because of the medications taken by Marlon he didn't think sitting in a hot courtroom would be the ideal situation. If his condition worsens Marlon could go into cardiac arrest and possibly die right there in the courtroom. Is that what the Judge wants asked Dr. Redmond? I will have to notify Judge Claiborne and get his permission for Marlon to stay in bed replied Timothy. In all my years as a medical profession I have never seen or heard of a situation where the doctor is advising against a patients sitting in a courtroom and the Judge is demanding that the patient be there. Whether Mr. Edwards is there or not, it's not going to change the outcome of today's events. I tell you what. I will not sign nor will I consent to a release of Mr. Edwards from the hospital care today. So you tell Judge Claiborne that he has a job to do and so do I.

Counselor Spann went out to the hallway to phone Judge Claiborne. Hello Counselor answered Judge Claiborne. The proceeding will start one hour from now. I'm looking forward to seeing you and your client present in my courtroom. Well you're Honor, that's the reason I'm calling. Dr. Redmond doesn't feel that my clients' condition will allow him to sit in the courtroom today. Marlon has been screaming out for Kayla to come back to him all night. He's been heavily medicated this morning. My client isn't in his right mind your Honor. Dr. Redmond also stated that he will not release Mr. Edwards from the hospital until his situation gets better. Is that so replied Judge Claiborne? You tell Dr. Redmond that by not releasing him to stand trial he is obstruction the courts proceeding. If he does that then I will have no choice but to hold him in contempt of court. You also tell Dr. Redmond that if I have to drum up more charges to make him lose his license I will. He better release Mr. Edwards. You better have him in court today counselor or we can see what charges you can be charge with. Counselor Spann went back to tell Dr. Redmond of Judge Claiborne' latest words.

After giving it some serious thought Dr. Redmond reluctantly signed the release forms for Mr. Edwards. Timothy helped Marlon to his feet with the help of Nurse Tammie. They quickly got Marlon dressed and sat him in a wheelchair. Marlon was coming out of his daze but still seemed a little out of it. Where are we going Marlon asked Timothy? To court, the Judge will not let you miss today's proceedings. He's acting like a jack ass right now replied Timothy. I'm sorry Marlon. I tried everything in my powers to get him to grant your stay in the hospital. It's ok Timothy. I understand. I'm a murder suspect. They could care less about how I'm feeling right now said Marlon. Before Marlon left the hospital Dr. Redmond prescribed some medications to help with the pain and inflammation coming from his wounds.
