"Morning honey" my mom said as I walked into the kitchen on a warm August day.

"Morning mom, what day is it?"

"It's the 19!"

"Oh my god! Mom it's Maeve's birthday!"

"I know Alec, I already got her something you can give her. It's on my bed upstairs, go have a look!" I turned and ran up the stairs.

I walked into my moms room and I saw a necklace box and a bag from American Eagle. In the box was a silver chain with dark emerald leaves and a simple red rose at the centre. It was absolutely perfect. Her unruly red hair and pale skin would be perfect. The rose complementing her red lips. I look into the bag and I pull out a beautiful white picnic dress.

"Wow" was all I said.

"So you think she will like it?"

"Mom I think it's perfect!"

Now just so we are clear, Maeve is not my girlfriend but I guess I could say I really want her to be. We have been inseparable since we were ten when we met at "arts after school". Every Monday and Thursday we would go to the art room at our school. When I went for the first time, the only seat available was the one next to her and from that day I knew we were friends forever.

I took the dress and the necklace and wrapped them in baby blue tissue paper. Baby blue is her favourite colour.

20 minutes later I was leaving my house to walk the one block to her house. My mom even said I could I chose the gifts myself. I was the only one going over for now. Her real party was starting at four so I had three house to tell her how I feel and I really hope she feels the same.
