It was a bright Saturday morning. It was summer, time for work. The alarm clock was going off waking up Tori and Sam.
"Uuuuugh! Hey sis... Can you turn off the alarm?" Sam said tiredly as he got up out of bed. Tori groaned. "What?" Tori asked, half asleep. "Turn off the alarm, " Sam quietly said. Tori slowly reached her arm out to turn off the alarm, "Uuugh...Mornin' Bro. I'm gonna get ready now," Tori said sleepily.
"C'mon, We're gonna be late for work." Sam said as he rushed to get dressed. Opening drawers and spraying deodorant around in the bathroom. "Hey Sam, our birthdays are coming up soon. I hope I get those headphones I've asked for forever!" Tori said with excitement. "That's right! I totally forgot about that! Shoot what do I want for my birthday, maybe the same thing that you have? We are twins after all." Looking into the mirror, Sam and Tori looked like two halfs of a whole, Like a heart - happy together, broken when apart.
Sam and Tori ran up the stairs to the bookstore as their parents arrived. "Hey kiddos, how are you? Tori I got you something, and Sam, your mother said she needs to chat with you," their father said cheerfully. While Sam ran out the door to his mother, their father gave Tori a beautiful Amethyst Heart necklace. Tori screamed with awe and bliss.
"It's soooooo pretty!!! Thanks dad!" Sam and his mother were talking about that new job application. Sam thought, "My sister and I are finally turning 15. Life really begins now," Sam quietly thought. As they finished their chats the bookstore finally opened.
A few minutes after opening a suspicious man walks through the front door of the bookstore and said he needed to return a book. However the book was never registered in the store's system. Their father Curtis, told the man to leave the book here, and pay a $5 unregistered book fee. The man paid the fee then disappeared out the door. Startled by the man's quick entrance and exit, Curtis looked at the book. It was written in English, but it was very old, very old. His parents and grandparents all worked at this store since the 1400s, when it was just a small shack selling ripped and ragged books, ¢20 each. His moment of thought vanished when Tori and Sam ran up to him and saw the old tainted book.
"What's that dad?" Sam and Tori said in unison. "I'm not sure, it looks like it's not from this century though, but there's a time stamp on the inside of the book, reading (4/19/????) The year printed on the time stamp had rubbed off, looking like it was done purposely. Hmm. I wonder who that mystery man was.." The father said with confusion. Tori and Sam looked at each other with their puzzled faces pondering about the book.
Time passed and soon it was midday. Gulping down water Sam and Tori were silently organizing books alphabetically on the shelves, as the father sat at the desk answering a visitors question. Their mother was in the back room preparing lunch for the family. All way normal until the mystery man Tori and Sam pondered about showed up at the door again. This time his face was partially visible, he had a silver colored beard, with dark shades on his face.
"Can I help you today sir?" Curtis said. But the man just walked up to the desk as Tori and Sam stopped working to watch. The man pulls out a box that looked like a puzzle from the 1950s. Then he proceeded to leave, But Curtis stopped him, Hollering "Wait, who are you? And where did you get this book? And why are you dressed like your hiding?"
