18 year old Nicki Wolfe is a troubled teen who must move in with her aunt when her mother is killed in an accident. Nicki lived with her mother ever since the horrible accident that killed her father, which she is sure she caused, when she was only 13. Moving to the ranch, Nicki right away falls in love with the ranch and a certain someone there. Her aunt owns the ranch, Shady Stream Ranch, to be exact, for troubled teens like herself. They each are given a beautiful Quarter Horse to train, care for, and ride. Finding out about this, she is determined to hate everything and everyone there. But, when Nicki is paired up with the newest horse at the barn, a handsome chestnut stallion, Nicki immediately feels a bond connecting them.
Will Nicki follow her heart and stay, banishing her fears and the pain and guilt she feels, or will she run and turn her back on the only love she's ever known?
