“Love is our true destiny. We do not find the meaning of life by ourselves alone –we find it with another.” -T. Merton
Chapter 1
The moon peaked through the leaves of the oak tree basking a dim filtered light upon her face.
“I’ve been looking for you, my love,” he said as he came out of the shadows. She couldn’t see his face, but her heart somehow knew him.
“I’ve been waiting for you,” she said, as Cora put her small soft hand into his. He took his index finger and sweetly traced the edge of her beautiful face.
“You have a rare beauty that radiates from the inside out. I have never known such a deep love as I feel for you, Cora,” he said, pulling her close to him. He caressed her lovingly and smoothed the wayward hairs from her face. She smiled as he continued to express his heart to her. She finally knew love. She had found everything she wanted.
“I will always know love because I have known you,” Cora said, as he took her into a passionate kiss. His arms encircled her as if claiming her. She knew he wanted more, much more. His hand moved down from her hair and sweetly touched her lips. He whispered compliments about her sexy body and pure beauty. His strong hand slowly brushed the inner skin of her arm as their fingers locked together. His gaze stayed firm on her eyes as he penetrated directly into her soul. He was beyond sexy. Cora’s mouth was dry in anticipation. He was very clear about what would happen next. She had no doubt. He was ready. She was ready. He…
Beep! Cora’s alarm clock harshly jarred her out of dream. Cora smacked at it like an annoying mosquito. She closed her eyes in an attempt to recreate the moment, but it had already passed. Why was her dream world better than her real life? Who was that man?
“Please let it be Saturday,” Cora said out loud to herself. The soft sheets cradled Cora’s body and begged her to stay in bed. Why was getting up such a chore? She had already hit the snooze button twice. Could she afford a third? Even the alluring smell of coffee from the kitchen didn’t entice her. Life felt plain and predictable, and she was horny. Nevertheless, if she didn’t get out of bed, she was going to be late for work.
Cora jumped out of bed, got ready and began her drive to work. She was an intern at Locke Incorporated now for a little less than a year. The focus of Locke Incorporated was to build environmentally friendly structures. The green economy was growing rapidly and Cora was very interested in the field. After she graduated in the winter session with her MBA, she began work at Locke Incorporated. The northern office was located in Santa Rosa, which was not far from Cora’s apartment in Berkeley.
Cora enjoyed making the drive from Berkeley to Santa Rosa. Driving brought her a feeling of newness, adventure and opportunity. She wasn’t sure how she felt about the subject of past lives, but if she did believe in them, she was surely once a dog. When the weather was nice, she would pop her head out of any window available, even a sunroof, if she was fortunate enough to be riding in a car with one. It was exhilarating to feel the air beat against her face. She would let her arm go with the wind and it would dance around and around completely out of control. There was freedom in movement.
