The night was silent as the chilled air passed through the stone bordered windows of the castle. The feeling of foreboding clung to the shadows in the long, dark hallways. For eight hundred years the King of Darkness (King Tabas), and the Queen of Light (or Queen Ray), ruled the lands of Maka, the capitol solar system in the Elemental Galaxy. The King and Queen ruled each of the elements, even outside their galaxy. All beings bowed to them except for earthlings; earth being the only planet that included all the elements, canceling out any elemental powers. Each solar system in the King and Queen’s domain was dominated by a single element. There were the elements of fire, water, ice, earth, wind, darkness, and light. The Galaxy lived in harmony under the rule of their King and Queen. But that night, their worlds were in chaos. On this terrible doomsday, King Tabas and Queen Ray were horribly, unexpectedly murdered. There had been no way to tell that this was to happen, as it had never happened before in the history of the Universe. But that night, it became the reality that the people now faced.
“Stop this madness!" Queen Ray shrieked, as the knife dug into her back. The king crawled over to his wife and held her close, not wanting to let go. They were in the middle of the floor of the prison, each entrance blocked by dark silhouettes.
“You monster!” King Tabas yelled at the figure that threw the knife, “You will pay for this; all of this!!” The hatred he showed for their situation rang clearly in his voice. He hated that his bride was in pain, and he wished that he could make it all go away. He knew they were both to die, and any attempt at a rescue was hopeless.
A dark laugh echoed through the rooms of the castle and bounced off the walls of the prison where they were held. The king felt his love shudder; he could sense how frightened she was. Tabas rested his chin on her head and stroked her hair, trying to comfort her. He didn’t want to die and he knew that his Queen didn’t want to either. His only chance to get out alive with her was to sacrifice all of his inner energy. He stood up, gently hoisting his bride up with him; the knife still in her back.
“We have one shot at this.” The King whispered to the Queen, “We must use our ultimate power, before it is gone and we can no longer control it.” The Queen nodded, she knew it was their one and only chance to live, and to save the world from this ultimate evil known as the Devil’s Children. These men were pure evil and nothing else. The enemies of everyone, they were distinct by their pale black and white bodies and the faint aura flowing around them, which was white in color. They were truly wretched stalkers of the night; their footsteps were as silent as they are quick. Like lightning, I say, they could strike you faster than the time it would take for you to gasp your final breath.
In unison, the King raised his right hand and the Queen raised her left, standing side by side. They kept their eyes on their enemy and concentrated. In King Tabas’s hand a red and black orb of darkness formed; in Queen Ray’s, a white and yellow orb of light. The spell was known to kill any enemy even if the caster was weak. It was so strong and so unknown that its name had been lost to the past centuries.
The King yelled, “Now!!” and the King and Queen shot the orbs of power at the shadowed figure. The dark shape simply chuckled and blocked the orbs with one single movement of his hand. It was over. Their last hope for escape had failed them. Another dark figure from the group that surrounded them shot an arrow at the King and Queen. Their eyes rolled back into their heads as they fell to the ground. The arrow killed the King and the Queen both at once with a single blow through their heads. Even in death, the King held his love, and never again let go.
As their bodies lay limp on the floor, their eternal spirits soared into the skies together. When the King’s spirit left the land of the living, the darkness in the Universe started to die. The midnight sky was brightly lit by a rainbow striped in colors of magenta, teal, opal, quartz, emerald, ruby, and violet. When the Queen’s soul was wiped from existence, the light began to die. All the lights went out and the sun became dull. It was like an apocalypse, the temperatures all around the universe chilled; the evil had won.
