Rudy's POV
It was a freezing September night. I remember it well. To be fair - who wouldn't remember the night when everything changed?
Something was going to happen.
I could feel it in my bones.
After Papa had gone to war, nothing was right.
My younger brothers and sisters didn't bother me to play with them anymore.
My Mama didn't ask me to help with dinner anymore.
It was almost as if everything was already dead in advance.
That night, I swear I could've heard a voice telling me to leave them.
Leave them and find Papa.
Of course, I never managed to find him.
But I did manage to stay in the Forrest for a few days.
Living off Berries, apples and the bread I had taken from our house, I had just enough to survive for around a week.
However, I never managed to eat all of the apples.
They reminded me too much of when I went stealing with Liesel.
Liesel Merminger.
How I would miss her when I went to find my dad.
Don't worry, I didn't leave without leaving her a note.
Outside her house.
I guess it must've been blown away or something.
Liesel Merminger was not like anyone I'd ever met before. She was strong, clever and was willing to play football with us.
Perhaps that's why I liked her so much.
And I would never see her again.
Or that's what I thought.
I will admit though, in some ways it was good that I left that night.
She would have no one if I didn't.
===========================
Hi, Izzy here again.
Sorry if it is a bit confusing so far.
Basically, the night of the bombing, Rudy runs away to find his Dad.
But he only makes it to the forest.
The chapters won't be this short too much.
