I whimpered. My police officer told me to run and save myself but I couldn't let him burn in this horrible, crumbling, old building.
Luke (my police officer) and I were on a mission to arrest an escaped prisoner. He was in prison originally for murdering his brother to inherit 1 million dollars from his farther. He murdered his brother because his brother was the older one and was going to get it instead of him.
With our bad luck when we got to the old wear house were the man was hiding we didn't notice a bomb that was planted at the very back. I could smell something odd but couldn't make it out, so, I gave up and followed Luke. "Well hello you two. Come to arrest me again have you?" a voice in the shadows snickered. I stepped in front of Luke and growled protectively. "I see you've brought your little dogy-wogy. I'm not afraid of you pooch!" he half yelled half laughed. "Come along now, peacefully and nothing bad will happen." Luke stated with confidence. "Why would I want to come with you!" He yelled with more anger, just before pushing a red button that was held in his hand. "Prepare to die!" he yelled.
---------------------------------------------
That was all I remembered before I woke up, covered in splintered wood and other bits from the once standing wear house. 'LUKE!' I thought instantly. I tried to get up but was held down by my blanket of doom. Then I noticed a fire, coming closer each time you blinked. At that I fought and fought to get out of my covering and finally one. I ran around looking for Luke. It seemed like eternity before I finally found him. He was lying on his back with the same blanket of doom that I once had. I tugged as hard as I could on his shirt, the fire now licking his toes. "No Archer, you must go and save yourself. I'll figure this out." he said, trying to calm me. I whimpered not knowing what to do. Suddenly Luke groaned and passed out. I shook him, trying to awaken him but was unsuccessful. Then an idea popped into my head. I grabbed his phone from his pocket and called 000. "Hello, what seems to be the problem." the woman on the other end asked. I whimpered and barked, I might have even howled, trying to get the message through to the woman. Suddenly she hung up. Just like that! However moments later, to my surprise, there were about 5 police cars, 3 ambulances and 4 fire engines speeding around the corner and people running in to asses the problem. At that moment a lost all desire to stay awake and collapsed in a heep and blacked out.
---------------------------------------------'Beep! Beep!' I woke up finding myself at the vet, covered in tubes, wires and all sorts of things that were keeping me alive. My ears shot up instantly at sight of Luke rolling past on a bench thingy, with two other people at either end pushing it. That's when I realize that I'm not at the vet but at the hospital. I felt a tiny tinge of proudness creepy up on me but it instantly disappeared when I saw Luke's wife, Melissa, come red eyed and crying out of the room that Luke went into a few minutes ago. What had happened in there?!
Melissa soon noticed that I was there, whimpering and whining, so she came over and sat next to me to comfort me. "You are the best dog in the world. You were the one that saved his life." at that she started crying all over again. I howled with her even though I didn't know how well or bad Luke was. After about 5 minutes of crying she rested her head on the same pillow that I had and fell fast asleep. I decided that I looked so nice I did the same.
3 hours later.............
Suddenly I was awoken by someone shaking me. My eyes flew open and my ears shot up. To my surprise I saw that Melissa had awoken me. "Hi Archer. I was just wondering if you wanted to go see Luke because the doctor said....." I didn't even let her finish before I jumped off my bed and pelted towards the door that I'd seen Melissa come out of.
"it was ok?!"Standing on my back legs, I pushed the door open with all my strength. As I trotted into the room there were lots of people that looked dead. I new they weren't however, because I could still smell there life that they had. As I came to the very last one I saw, what looked like, a lifeless body of Luke. I smelt the air around him but he was still living and breathing. I took a couple steps back, whimpering, over whelmed by the situation, and ran into Melissa's legs. "Its ok Arch, he's not dead, he's just in a coma." she said soothingly but holding back the tears.
A coma! A coma! How could this day get any worse! I couldn't stand it any more. I sprinted out of the room and into the corridor and out the exit doors. I ran and ran. I wasn't sure were I was going but just getting away from that sickly horrid building started to make me feel better. I did this I ruined his life. If only I had just walked off and found the bomb instead. I RUINED HIS LIFE!!!
---------------------------------------------
I woke up suddenly, panting and out of breath. A drop of water fell on my head and ran down my back, making me shiver. Yep, I had had the same dream as I always have almost every night. The dream of my failure. And yep, I was still under a cardboard box as my makeshift home. And yep again, I was homeless. When I was mid thought, suddenly a twig snapped just outside my box and there was crying to be heard. Who could be out there this late at night, by themselves, crying?
