It's been almost a year since Rift and The Spine had gotten together. Although it was a long distance relationship since Rift didnt have the money to move to California and had to stay in New York with Rick and Gidgit. Although the distance was a problem, Rift got frequent calls from Spine. The conversations were short but they held so much meaning to the odd brunette. She kept a decent paying job to gain enough money so she could go live at Walter Mansion in California. Rick and Gidgit helped her of course .

It was late, almost midnight when Spine woke her from her sleep. She reached for her buzzing phone and answer.

"H-Hello?"

"Oh sorry, did I wake you." Spine asked with nervousness in his voice. Rift smiled and layed back in her bed.

"Yeah, but its fine. How've ya been?"

"Just fine. Are you coming soon?" He sounded excited.

"Yes, Spine. My pay day is tomorrow so I'll finally have enough money to pack my things and come see you."

"I'm glad. You'll live with us too right?"

"Of course. I need to go back to sleep Spine. Goodnight."

"Goodnight Rift. Love you." She blushed. Thank god he couldnt see her right now.

"Love you too." And with that they hung up, with Rift falling into her deep sleep as her TV was still on giving the room some extra voices. Oddly one of those voices was not from the TV, but from a man standing in the shadow of her room, watching her. The tall man smiled and walked over to her and pet her head. Humming a low and almost dark lullaby. It was soothing none te less. While Rift slept the man stood over her protecting her from night terrors that wanted to devour her mind but were cut down by the man.
