~Flashback~

The first time I had killed someone, it was an accident. I didn't mean to kill him. We were standing on the porch steps when I broke up with him.

"Come on. I know you still love me!" he said grabbing my face with his hand and trying to force a kiss upon me. He was in my personal space. He was too close and I did not want to kiss him.

In one swift move, my hands were on his chest as I pushed him away from me as hard as I could. He fell backwards onto the black metal fence, skewering his chest like a shish kabob. In the end, it was ruled self defense and I was let off the hook.

The truth was, I did like that feeling of power. Having the ability to end a life, watching it flicker out, that was what I enjoyed. At that time, I just didn't know it.

~End of Flashback/Memory~

As I sat there in a seat by the window at the café, I was picking who my next random victim was going to be. It was pouring down outside of the cozy room. There were certainly plenty of people to choose from as they scrambled bye, trying to hail a cab or get to the next building without getting completely soaked. That is what I liked about New York, the endless amount of people to choose from.

I jumped as the man with black raven hair seated a few seats away from me ordered some tea. He sounded impatient, as if he were going to be late for something important just by waiting 2 minutes for tea.

Of course I was being very observant, reading other people's body language and also sending a good vibe is very important in delicate situations like this. I mean searching for victims in public is not really considered normal. If anyone senses anything weird about me, I could be caught.

I looked back out the window.

Mmm...Not him. He'd be too strong. Maybe her. She is smaller than most. It  would be easier to carry her body, if needed. Her, it should be her.

I quickly got up from from my seat and walked out of the dainty little café. The next part of my plan was to find out where she lived without raising suspicion.

As I followed her, I noticed she wasn't having any luck with getting a taxi. So I stepped closer to her, whistled, and waved my hand. Instantly, a taxi arrived and I offered to share a ride with her.

"Sure. I'm headed toward the apartment complex across the street from Walmart. It's not too far from here. You?"

"Me? I'm just going a few blocks past there," I lied.

Humans are such easy things to lie to. They're too trusting.

The taxi starts to move when I see him again, the raven haired man. His intimidatingly grey eyes seemed to pierce me, as if they were staring into my soul. It seemed at the moment that he was the one my future was meant to be with.

I turn the corner and he's out of my sight.

"Stop the cab! Stop it!," I screeched.

"Well, are you gonna ride or not?!" the taxi driver exclaims angrily at me.

"No. I'm not, but here's twenty dollars to pay for her. Keep the change."

I drop the bill on the seat as I exit the vehicle. The door slams closed behind me. I've gotten most of the information I need on her anyway. My next mission, find out who my mystery soul mate is.

Who says my emotions and feelings have to make sense. I am supposedly crazy being a murderer and all.

I walk back around the corner that I came from, searching frantically for him. It starts pouring rain to the point where I can't see more than an arms length away. Then as if magic, he appeared already inside a cab that was sitting by the curb.

I went up to the parked, but running cab and tapped on the glass. He motioned for me to enter, so I did.

"Thanks for letting me in!" I say blushing.

"Tch. Brat, I didn't do this out of the kindness of my heart. You  just looked fucking pathetic out in the pouring rain," he says crossing his arms," Didn't your parents teach you not to accept rides from strangers?"

So much for perfect introductions!

"Yeah, they did. It's just for some reason, I trust you."

The rain outside slows down an the taxi driver starts to drive on in the traffic filled roads of New York.

"It's a good thing you did. You see, my name is Levi Ackerman and I'm a consulting detective helping the police catch a serial killer. (A/N: Kind of like Sherlock) You could have been her next victim."

So they know I'm female.

"... Hey brat, what's your name?"

"Oh, my name's (y/n)."

"Well br-- I mean (y/n)-- if you are ever in trouble and need help or find any clues just call the number on the card. If that doesn't work, go to this address or visit the police station and ask for me."

He hands me a fancy little business card.

"Um, thanks."

*ring, ring* (Levi's phone)

"Hello? Ah yes. Hold on," he turns to me," You may not be street smart, bet lets see if you're people smart. I've been searching for an apprentice, but I haven't found anyone intelligent enough. You could say that I'm looking for a Watson of my own."
