•Levy's POV•

I had my hand held loosely in Gajeel's and a smile on my face. Natsu and Lucy were walking right next to us as we left the restaurant. They were laughing at something that Natsu said but I missed it. I was busy staring up at Gajeel.

He had his eyes anywhere but on me as he let out a small chuckle to go along with the joke. That chuckle hurt me to hear it, despite I knew that it was fake. I couldn't do that anymore, make him laugh that is.

Over the past few day, three to be exact, it's been a little tense. Every relationship has a few bumps. This was one of them. What caused it was Gajeel had gone drinking a few nights in a row, wasting money on drinks and staying out late. Natsu went with him each time but didn't drink. Natsu confirmed that he was only with me and wasn't hooking up with other chicks, only downing drinks and complaining about how shitty his missing father is. Lucy even made sure to have a few serious talks with Natsu to be sure he wasn't lying about Gajeel.

I decided to bring it up about how he keeps going out to drink. He got a little upset and explained how he didn't see anything wrong with it. Tension only grew from there.

And here we are now, leaving the double date with Natsu and Lucy. Lucy and I, probably Natsu too, were hoping that this date would help and be the first step in fixing things.

"Alright, well, see you guys tomorrow!" Lucy waved to us. I have her a small wave and a sad smile as they left.

Due to the situation, we drove here in separate cars, sadly. It was pathetic how we couldn't fix a problem such as this. We were making something into a bigger problem than it really was.

We looked into each other eyes and stayed like that for a moment. He turned away and got into his car without a word. I sighed before getting in mine. He was already pulling out of the parking lot before I could even start the car.

I held the keys right by where they were supposed to go but my hand started shaking and I dropped the keys to the floor. I looked down but tears that were forming blurred my vision from seeing the keys. I gave up and laid my head on the steering wheel with my head facing down. I cried out as tears freely slipped out of my eyes and onto the lilac dress that I had worn for the occasion.

After a few minutes my voice was already cracking and my eyes were red and puffy. I would've been okay with sitting there until the sun set but my phone vibrated from the seat beside me, which pulled me out of the state I was in.

I stared at it for at least a minute, wondering if it was Gajeel or not, before I actually picked it up. It was from Lucy

L: has anything changed?

Me: no

L: do you want to come over for tonight?

Me: no, it's fine, I'll be fine at home.

I didn't read whatever message she sent after that and instead dialed Gajeel's number. I had memorized so long ago.

It rang twice before he answered.

"Hello?" He sounded polite but his voice sounded sore, used too much, from the loud nights filled with arguing and yelling and, who knows, he may have cried a few times just like I did many times. He didn't read the caller id, other wise he wouldn't have replied like he did. He never did read the id. Ever. Something I learned about him over the past few years.

"Gajeel?" My voice cracked which made me seem even more pathetic.

"Levy," his voice was flat with no emotion.
