As it turns out Percy was a funny person with toothy smiles and wild hair. He had a sweet tooth and loved to cartwheel. He also happened to understand what an outsider was, because he was one himself, only he was encouraged to be that way. Most likely because of his snacks and toys.
Although he was a bit naive, it was beneficial for Rosemary to be friends with him. For one thing, it kept the pack of girls away and he made her laugh till her stomach hurt. In the later years he also kept the jealous girls at bay, and gave her a popularity a boost, protecting her from bullies.
She never regretted being his friend.
Everyday they would sit at the detention table and she would give him whatever candy was in her lunch bag. From there it was anything from frog hunting to him teaching her to cartwheel. Those were the fun days that they grew nostalgic for.
It was 7th grade.
The new schedule along with only one recess was depressing. But it was the time when girls gossiped and began to worry about their chest size. It was also the time when boys played sports and avoided doing typically feminine things.
Rosemary had one female friend and one male friend. But she didn't care about the number. In fact she was overjoyed to even have friends.
The girl had straight hair and almond shaped eyes, she was very popular. Her name was Grace. She enjoyed Kpop and made it a habit to keep up with trends.
The boy was Percy. The only difference was that he didn't cartwheel anymore, it was something only girls did, and that girls began to notice him.
Rosemary herself was quiet and shy, only around Percy and Grace was she loud. Despite being popular she was practically invisible, being overshadowed by her friends. Her grades were at the best of her class though.
"Omg Rose! I have to tell you something!"
"Yeah?"
"So you know that one guy that I liked since forever?"
"The one with black hair? "
"Yes, and you how the dance is coming up?"
"October 4?"
"Yes!!! I really want him to ask me to the dance!!!!"
"Oh, thats great! I hope he does"
Grace squealed and began to talk about what she would wear to the dance when she got asked and how she was going to wear makeup and on and on and the kpop song that matched and on and on.
Rosemary couldn't care less, but she was happy that her friend was so exitied. The dance did sound pretty fun, after all it would the first one she would attend. And then she couldn't help but think about Percy asking her. She could feel her ears growing hot.
"So who do you like?"
She jumped a little in surprise and her mind jumped to the idea that Grace could read minds.
"P- No one!!!" She answered with the denial that every child has about their crush.
"P huh? Is it Pat?
"No"
"Is it Peter?"
"No"
Grace's voice then dropped to a barley audible sound.
"Percy?"
