Jamaal arrived back home to find Jayla asleep on the chair. He smiled to himself and covered her with the blanket on the other end of the chair. He then proceeded to their bedroom, stripped himself of his clothing and headed back outside to where Jayla slept. He lifted her up, still wrapped in the blanket, and laid her head on his chest as he sat on the couch. She jumped out of her sleep and lifted her hand toward his neck, but Jamaal quickly grabbed it when before he was punched in the throat and stared calmly in to her eyes. "Relax." Jamal whispered soothingly into her neck and released her. She sleepily calmed down and rubbed her eyes as it adjusted to the dark. She stared at the clock on the cable box. It read, '3:35'. "Where were you?" she asked him him, rubbing her her eyes again. "Takin' care of business, ma." She sucked her teeth and and climbed off his lap. He grabbed her my her waist and pulled her back. "C'mon, ma."
"C'mon, Jamaal." He let out a heavy sigh. "If you had another bitch at the club, all you had to do was say so." Jamaal frowned. "What?" She struggled to get out of his lap, "You heard what I said." Jamaal struggled with her to keep her on his lap. "Let me go." She continued struggling to be freed, but it was no use. "Why? I ain't do nothin'." He brushed his nose against her warm flesh, inhaling her scent as he kissed her sweet skin. Careful not to send a sexual feel to it, but Jayla's hormones was up and down for a while now and she tried to suppress her moan. "Cause I don't like being played." Jamaal snuggled close to her neck, "I'm not playin' you, ma." Jayla rolled her eyes and turned her head. "Look at me." Jayla ignored his request. He pulled her chin with his index finger to face him. "C'mon, ma. Look at me." Jamaal puller her body closer to his. She finally looked a t him. "I would never play you, Jayla." She lowered her eyes. "How you so sure?" Jayla asked still avoiding his gaze.. Jamaal leaned in and planted a tender kiss on her lips. "Because I've fallen for you ma." She scoffed and continued to look away. "Jayla, I'm serious. You bring out a side of me that even I haven't seen before. I go soft when I'm around you. You make me a better man Jayla Reeves." Jayla still ignored him and it shattered his to see that she was so insecure about their relationship. He stood, with her still in his arms and carried her to their bedroom and gently laid her on top of the bed and turned to leave. Jayla frowned when she didn't feel him lay next to her. She sat up and saw him heading back out into the living room. "Where you goin'?" Jamaal stopped at the door and sighed. "I can tell you wanna be left alone so I'mma go 'head and sleep on the couch. Goodnight, ma." He walked back over and kissed her on her forehead then retreated to the couch in the living room. He laid in the dark and soon his eyes adjusted. He glanced at the clock and saw it was going on 5 in the morning and decided to go to sleep.
Jayla laid in bed tossing and turning. "Ughh..." she groaned. She threw the covers off of her and silently tip-toed to the couch where Jamaal filled the room with a light snore. "Jamaal?" Jayla whispered, but the snoring continued. "Jamaal?" she said a little louder. The snoring ceased and he stirred out of his sleep. He jumped out of his sleep and started searching for who was calling. "It's me baby." Jayla said stepping towards him. "Mm...what's wrong babe? You good?" he asked in his deep husky and raspy tone. "No. I can't sleep." she said standing right in front of him. "What's wrong? Why you can't sleep?" He asked her standing up in front of her. Jayla backed up to put space between them, Jamaal pulled her by the waist and closed the space. "Because ...I don't know." she lied. "You sure?" Jamaal asked concerned. "Yea. I'm good. Goodnight." she turned to leave and Jamaal grabbed her arm. "Jayla, wait." she stopped and turned back around. "After you dropped me off, where did you go?"
"To the hospital." she shook her head. "Why you lyin'?" she asked getting angry. "I'm not lyin' to you Jayla!" Jamaal yelled. "Why the fuck were you there then?!" She asked feeling her temperature rise. That made her trigger finger itch. "One of my friends got shot by a crazy ex."
"So why they call you? He ain't got no family?"
"No. We grew up in the same foster home after my parents died. I am his family, and he is mine, Jay." Jayla immediately felt bad. "Jamaal, I'm sorry. My emotions are all over the place lately. I got a doctor's appointment later to see what's wrong." Jayla sobbed. "Sh, sh, sh. It's ok. You didn't know. Calm down. Let me walk back to bed." He took her hand and walked her back to their bed and watched her get in. "You comfortable?" She nodded, 'yes'. "Ok. Get some sleep. I'll take you to your appointment tomorrow. Ok?" he swooped the her hair behind her ear. "Yea. Ok. Thank you."
