Misconception

Chapter One

The bus dropped me off at my apartment. A new fresh start here in ShadyBrook. The best school was right around the corner well not really, it was more than just a corner. But I moved here for the school, one of the very best opportunities to become one step closer to my dreams, I imagine being a big time writer or maybe even a singer. My name will be known every where. The school ShadyBrook Highschool will really give me a boost.

I used to live in Hillside with my boyfriend Ricky but, I decided to call it quits because the fact that I was moving and also because I didn't really feel the connection anymore. We still remain close friends though. Talking about friends, the talk of the town says there's a monster in the area. Hunting down people to "eat". It stopped for a while but, I presume it started again since more unknown deaths have happened lately. In a week I'll be starting at ShadyBrook which I'm extremely excited and nervous about. I cant wait to meet new people here.

I walk into my apartment building to check in. The lady at the front desk smiles at me sweetly and greets.

"Hello Ariana, what can I do for you?" She asks. I smile back at her.

"Just checking in Marcia" I say. She nods checking me in for the day. This apartment building is pretty nice. They make sure everything stays in check. I walk towards the staircase going up the flight of stairs.

I make it to my room and I open the door. I walk in closing the door behind me. I plop down on the couch thinking.

What to do...

Maybe I should learn more about these "killings". I get up walking to my room getting my laptop. I lay down on my bed opening it up. I open up Google searching my town and these "killings". What I find is terrible.

Shadybrook has had a number of killings. In the last year there have been twelve deaths. We don't know who or what is doing it, but we know its not safe. People have moved away and we rarely have any newcomers.

Stay safe and lock your doors. Never go out after eight. If you do, go out prepared.

You could be next.

I shudder at the thought of all these murders. I'm not gonna lie and say I'm not scared. Then again I'm curious to see what's out there. I'm going to stay put for now.

I look at the time seeing its almost eight. It isn't that late but I'm honestly worn out. I put up my laptop letting out a sigh.

I tie up my hair removing my clothes and replacing them with a tshirt. I flick my light off hopping in my bed. Soon I drift off to sleep.

I hear noises outside my window and I sit up slowly. What if its the unknown killer? I instantly become nervous thinking about it.

I get up out of my bed noticing its freezing cold. I look to see that my window is open. I frown in confusion. My window was not open before. I walk over closing the window. I swear I feel a breath on my neck. I turn around quickly feeling extremely paranoid.

"W-who's there?" I stutter. I could feel myself shaking in fear. The window that I just closed slams open. I let out a little scream. My breathing gets heavy and I start to panic. I close the window again gulping.

Ok, ariana, its ok. I breathe in deeply trying to calm my nerves. I lay back in the bed trying to go back to sleep but it doesn't come. I toss and turn but nothing helps. I lay in silence thinking. In a distance I hear soft signing. I listen closely and it sounds beautiful.

I listen to the voice and slowly, I fall asleep.
