New strangers

The blackness enveloped me and I groaned as I closed my eyes, allowing myself to be swept away.
When my eyes opened I was standing in a dark, freezing room. Candles were the only light illuminating the house. I had never seen this room nor had any idea where I was. That's normally how it was for me. This room appeared to be a small, very messy, library. Books were everywhere from shelves to piles on the floor. In the middle of the room was a desk. It looked as if someone were recently there. A book was propped open and a piece of paper and pencil lay next to it. I picked a book off the top of the pile closest to me. It was an old leather book with worn pages. I couldn't make out the title so I turned the page for a clue. But, nothing was inside.
"What are you doing?" A voice from behind me said. I jumped, dropping the book and spun to see who spoke. A boy around my age was leaning against the doorway looking slightly amused. This was the first time anyone had ever spoken to me when I was transported. Normally I was the only person. But, here I was and here he was.
"I uh... I was just..." I said sounding pathetic. I couldn't just tell this stranger that I, a small, boney 17 year old girl, had appeared in his home because I was "transported" there. He wouldn't believe me for a second.
Suddenly the darkness came back and I was saved from answering. I stole one last glance at the boy as I began to disappear from the room. But, what I saw on his face shocked me. He was smiling. How could he find what just happened humorous?
I was back in my English class. The teacher droning on with the instructions from exactly where I had left off when I was transported. It was as if all I had done was blinked.

The school day went on as normal. All except for one thing. For some reason I couldn't stop thinking about my last Transport. The smiling boy unsettled me. Why was he smiling?  Why wasn't he shocked or scared? It's not everyday a random girl appears in your house and then suddenly disappears.
I was thinking all this through as I walked home when my friend Silvia came running up to me.
"Callie! Where have you been all day? I couldn't find you anywhere!" She exclaimed.
      "Sorry, I've been distracted."
"Well a had a fabulous day! Josh actually talked to me!" She said continuing back to herself like normal. I tried to listen but my mind wasn't in it. Silvia was great friend. She was kind, loving, trustworthy and so much more. A friend like her is rare and hard to find. But, sometimes she can be a little selfish. I felt guilty thinking so but, it was true. I looked over to Silvia and realized she was looking at me. She wasn't talking and it seemed like she was waiting for an answer.
"I'm sorry. What were you saying?" I asked.
"I swear, Callie, you are the worst. I was asking what I should do about Josh." She said sounding annoyed by how ignorant I was.
"You know I'm awful with relationships Silvia. You should ask Katey."
Katey was one of Silvia's best friends. I don't like her much. She's to quirky and a bit narcissistic. But, she was good with relationships.
"But, I never hear from you anymore," Silvia said sadly.
"I know and I'm sorry my minds just a little occupied with school lately," I lied. "I have to go. I'll call you later."
      "Okay. See you tomorrow Cal."

My house was dead quiet when I walked in. "Mom? Dad? Is anyone home?" No response came. I realized my dad was probably still at work but where was my mom. She was normally home when I came back from school. I looked all around the house but I couldn't find her. I decided she had probably gone out and lost track of time.
I went to my room and was just about to start my homework when the phone started ringing. I answered and heard my dads voice on the other end.
"Hey Cal, how was school?"
"It was fine." I responded.
"That's good. Can I talk to your mother?" He asked.
"She's not here. "
"That's weird she said she was staying home today because she wasn't feeling good."
"Huh. Well, I'll let you know if I here from her."
"Thanks. Love you hon."
"Love you too dad," I said before hanging up. I immediately began to feel uneasy. Where was my mom?
