Finally. The day had arrived. Birds chirping merrily and the leaves rustling in the wind, I took in a deep breath of fresh air from my bedroom window.
Summer was finally here.
I had been looking forward to a long break after countless days of burying myself in books, distancing myself from unnecessary drama and basically, living a dull life. Just like a nerd.
Great, Aria, you've come to terms that you're a nerd now? Tell that to Spencer and Michayla. What on earth has drowning myself in my studies done to me? Now I'm even talking to myself! Looks like I really need a break...
My bedroom door burst open as Spencer and Michayla stormed in like elephants, interrupting my train of thoughts. Speak of the devil. I narrowed my eyes at them. "Ever heard of knocking?"
"Well, not in my dictionary. And, hello there Aria. I'm feeling fine, thank you for your concern," Michayla replied sarcastically without missing a beat. Spencer grinned at me and jumped onto me, knocking the air out of me.
"Aria, I've missed you! So how's school? Met any new boys?" Spencer shot questions at me excitedly as I hugged her back.
"I've missed you too! Well, no. I've been studying more than ever lately and gosh, I do need a break."
Let me introduce my best friends to you now. Spencer Laguna just turned eighteen three weeks ago. She lives with her boyfriend, Jason Miguel, my ex-boyfriend whom I had not seen in years after he left me, who is nineteen. Michayla is seventeen, like me. We have almost every class together, unlike Spencer who only has lunch with me. She is happily together with Jordan Miguel, Jason's brother, who is seventeen. Jordan is in the popular crowd, just like Michayla.
"Great, I know the perfect idea! Jason wants me to attend a prestigious party hosted by his father's friend, Mr Lucas Collins tomorrow evening! We can all go together! I have this black dress ready and it's like omigosh, so perfect for this occasion..." Spencer gushed and my mind wandered off to something more important.
If Spencer is with Jason, Michayla with Jordan...Then who will I be with? It'll be like so awkward with me being the third party. Especially when Jason's my ex...
My heart pounded at the very fact that I would be meeting him again tomorrow, after 3 years.
"Aria, what are you waiting for? Let's go!" Michayla dragged me out of the house. And ladies and gentlemen, that's how I landed myself here in Mitch and Co Designer Store, with Spencer and Michayla handing me mountains of dresses to try on.
Spencer threw a mini strapless black dress at me and urged me to try it on. Five minutes later, I was in the dressing room making a face at my reflection.
The dress was so short that it was just a mere bit below my butt.
"No way am I ever coming out in this horrendous dress!" I shrieked at the two girls outside.
"Please, you have to do it for me!" Michayla pleaded.
"No."
"Or there won't be pizza offers at my mom's house for you anymore," Michayla threatened. I could practically see her devious smirk appearing on her face in my mind and I huffed.
"Fine, you win."
Peeking out from the dressing room door, I burnt holes through Michayla's head as she pushed open the door and pulled me out.
Wolf whistles were heard and as if on cue, I felt the heat rush to my face as I hurried back into the dressing room.
"Mich! What is wrong with you?" I grumbled, stripping out of the dress. It did not fit my taste.
"Okay, I'm sorry. That dress was really revealing. I promise the next one will be perfect for your fussy taste!" Michayla pacified me with a hint of sarcasm.
I rolled my eyes and grabbed the dress that she handed me over the door. After some time of struggling with the zip down my back, I glanced in the full-length mirror.
The elegant dress was sequined all over. Its rich champagne color brought out the best features in me. It hung beautifully, words can't even describe. It fit flawlessly; the dress molded my torso beautifully, complimenting my feminine shape. It was strapless, which showed off my collarbones and petite shoulders. The gown draped past my toes, slightly drifting from my legs. I gasped. It was perfection.
"What happened, Aria?" Michayla questioned.
"Aria, come out in the dress now!" Spencer demanded with a hint of excitement lacing her voice.
I stepped out from the dressing room. As I twirled, the dress would wrap itself around me for a second then it would formally slide back in place.
"You like a princess, Aria," Spencer complimented me with a big grin.
"Oh my gosh, Aria, you're gonna have a lot of suitors after you!" Michayla squealed. I smiled and blew kisses at my two best friends.
