Erika and Reid made small talk as they drove through Ipswich towards the bar that had been hyped up when they had first arrived at Spencer Academy. He looked good, still wearing the outfit he had on earlier, but without his hat. He did have one ear peirced from what she could see, a small hoop looping around the pad of his ear lobe. A few tattoos peeked out from his shirt when he moved, his arms wired with muscle. She bit her lower lip nervously and glanced out the window. His persona kind of changed when it was just them two. He was still a little cocky but he wasn't up in her face with it. He actually had a good sense of humor and she found herself laughing as they pulled up to Nikkis. It was an all brick building, not too big but not small by any means. The parking lot was pretty full, the neon NIKKI'S sign glowing red against the darkness of the night sky. As Reid killed the engine the loud music reached Erika's ears and she spotted the car her and Aimee shared a few spaces away.
He jumped out and met her on her side, taking her hand in his once more and walking towards the entrance. Two large windows framed the door and she could see people eating, drinking, and dancing. Reid got in the front door, pulling her behind him. She kept up easily and she smell hit her immediately. It was like beer and some body sweat, cigarette smoke too. And... fryer grease? Seeing a few girls splitting a plate of fries she was happy to see they had food. While getting ready she hadn't really thought about what to eat for supper, her only mean of the day was that ice cream cone. Reid tugged her and she almost stumbled as he tucked her under his arm. She leaned into his body, one hand splaying across his chest as she regained her balance. Hearing a cheer she looked up and caught Kate and Sarah waving like mad women. She smiled at them and her and her date walked over. Allowing her to sit he leaned over her. "Are you hungry?"
Looking up at him she smiled and nodded. "Can I just get a burger and fries?"
"Yeah, want a coke?" After she nodded yes he walked off towards the bar to order. Ignoring the grins that Kate and Sarah were giving her to inspect the back half of the bar. Two foosball tables were next to one another, a pool table tucked away near the back door. It was pretty packed and she recognized a few Academy students. Turning back towards the two girls at the table she saw their chesire grins and rolled her eyes with a small smile.
"Yes?"
"Um, you two are fucking adorable!" Kate squealed and Erika felt heat rush to her cheeks. Glancing over she saw Aimee walk over of the foosball table with Kaleb and begin a death battle.
"Uh, thanks?" She asked and crossed her arms. Awakening her power she sent a small thread of it at Aimee. The warmth zinged the blonde and she turned to spot her best friend. Kaleb's head snapped up and he looked around before he spotted Erika. He grinned and raised a hand which she returned. As her best friend and her boy toy an trotting over Reid came back with two baskets of food. Sliding her a burger and fry combo she reached up to help him balance it. "If I would have known they would make you carry both I could have gone with, weirdo." She said and smiled at him. He sat next to her and just sent her a cheeky smile before digging in. She did the same, suddenly starving.
"So, what took you guys so long to get here?" Aimee asked with a smile to match Kate and Sarah's.
"What do you mean? We came right here?" Erika questioned and snatched her drink back from Aimee.
"I did take the long way here. I wanted to talk to her." Reid admits with a carefree shrug. Tyler appeared at that moment, stopping Erika from going all embarrassed again.
"Hey Reid, Aaron and Brody want us to play some pool. You down?" He asked and leaned down. He smelled nice. Erika flicked his cheek and narrowed her eyes at him.
"Tyler, hun, don't you see Reid asked me out on a date? If he leaves me to go play pool after just ten minutes you think I would go out with him again?" She asked and held a fry up to his mouth. Tyler accepted it and shook his head. Reid shrugged and slung his arm on the back of Erika's chair.
"Sorry bro, you heard the lady. Maybe a little bit later." He said and gently squeezed her shoulder. He seemed to like touching her and she didn't really mind either. He was warm and smelled nice, plus he bought her food. Any way to a girls heart right there. Tyler went back to the pool table and Erika shared the last of her fries with Aimee, the blonde giving her the puppy dog look. After she was full she snuggled into Reid's side and just enjoyed how warm he was. As he chatted with Kaleb about their swim practice tomorrow she took her time inspecting everyone in the bar. Chase appeared a moment later with food of his own and Kate grinned at him. Where the hell was Pogue? Aimee caught her eye and shrugged.
"Hold on, how do you two do that?" Sarah asked with a smile. Erika and Aimee looked up slightly startled.
"Excuse me?"
"You two look at each other and it's like you are talking without words. I've seen people exchange looks but this is different." She continued her explanation and leaned on her hand to look at them both.
Aimee shrugged. "I've known Erika for years. Our moms would enter us in beauty pageants together and thats how we bonded. We don't have a huge love for bows and lace." Both exchanged another glance. "We weren't allowed to talk a lot at the events so we found other ways. We can also use sign language." Erika nodded to confirm it and shrugged lightly.
"You don't know pain until you know pageants." She said their old slogan and grinned.
Reid glanced down at her and smiled. "You, in pageants? I can't see it."
"Good, you don't need that imagery." Erika countered. Pogue appeared at that moment and noticed how buddy buddy Kate and Chase were. He slid up next to the and placed a kiss upon her cheek. They chatted a moment and Kate revealed that her and Chase had gone to see the new Brad Pitt flick and that he should have gone.
"Had to work on my bike, want any food?" Kate nodded and turned back to Chase. Pogue's scowl came back with force and he turned to Reid and Kaleb. "Boys, I need to talk to you. Come to the bar." He said and stalked off. Reid opened his mouth to argue but Erika nudged him.
"Just go, he's pissed." She whispered and leaned up to kiss his cheek. He grinned like an idiot and stood up, dragging Kaleb behind him. Aimee and her exchanged a glance and grinned.
"Still creepy." Sarah joked and took a sip of her own coke.
The next few minutes Erika and Aimee were chatting away before stopping and noticing that the guys hadn't returned. Looking back she noticed all of the sons standing at a pool table. "Okay, this is not acceptable." Aimee said and crossed her arms. Erika felt out her small clutch she had brought with her and pulled out a quarter. Meeting Aimee's eyes they walked over to the juke box and Erika slid the quarter in. After flipping through a few pages they landed on a song and stopped. With matching grins they pressed the buttons and a favorite started to blare through the bar. All the girls in the bar screamed and jumped up, grabbing their date and rushing towards the dance floor. Erika pulled some magic out again and knew it made her practically glow. Aimee followed suit and they walked over to the pool table.
Reid looked up and she watched his pupils dilate. Her grin grew as she grabbed his hand and pulled her. He didn't even fight, following her with a large grin on place. As Joan Jett began to shake the place they danced, Erika moving her hips and raising her hands up. Reid gripped her wrists and brought her arms up around his neck, pressing close to her. Looking up she watched his eyes flip between blue green to a deep blue. She bit her lower lip and his eyes looked down at the movement. His smile slowly fell and he leaned in, eyes closing. Erika's eyes slowly closed as well and pulled him down, pressing her chest flush against his and needing to feel his lips. The kiss started soft and he tasted like fries. It was petal soft and she pulled back a moment before pulling him back down and pressing her lips to his again. It was like they were devouring one another, teeth and tongues coming into play. Parting a moment later she just stood on the dance floor as people paid them no mind. Panting Erika looked up and smiled at him, moving to her tip toes to place another soft kiss one his lips before pulling back slightly to dance with him.
Reid let out a small laugh as she pulled him against her again. They danced until the song ended and Erika looked over to see Aimee and Kaleb kissing sweetly near the juke box. Erika grinned and Reid reached down to gently frame her face, kissing her soundly once more. When they parted the red head blushed slightly. "I suppose thats my part of the deal. You have to go on the date that I want now." She said and knew just what to do. It would be a big group date and would be tons of laughs, for her at least.
"Anything you want." He admitted and tucked her against his side again, leading her back to the table. Tyler was waiting there and Erika gently pushed Reid.
"Go play pool, I'm satisfied as of now." She joked and shooed him away. Aimee came back a moment later alone, Kaleb and Pogue going to play a round of foosball. Both girls exchanged a glance and laughed. "I guess this isn't too bad." She saw and peeked at Reid who was talking to Aaron and Brody, slapping money down on the table as he grabbed a pool stick. Kate nodded in agreement but Sarah seemed distracted. Erika followed her line of vision and found her staring at Pogues ass. Oh... well that was awkward. Kate nudged her roomie and the blonde jumped, turning to smile at the darker complexioned girl.
"So, what do you want to do tomorrow?" Aimee asked and finished off her friends coke.
"Reid promised me we could go on whatever date I want. I was thinking ice skating. I want everyone to go as well. It would be a fun group date." She said and smiled. She felt it then. The air grew thick just one moment and the snap of someone using power made Erika and Aimee look at one another with wide eyes. Next came the sound of Reid and Tyler laughing. Aaron and Brody looked pissed, Brody shoving Reid. The two stumbled and hit a table, a glass flying off and smashing on the ground. Erika felt her eyes narrow and knew they would look like burning emeralds. Aimee's gaze met hers and she was on fire as well.
Reid and Tyler walked out the back door, Aaron and Brody, plus two of their friends, following close behind. Aimee jumped up and went to Kaleb, explaining what they saw. He gave her a small kiss and walked out the back with Pogue in tow. It helped calm Erika, both boys were ripped with muscle, but she still wasn't very pleased. Grabbing Aimee's wrist she walked to the women's bathroom, one one wall keeping them apart from the alley all the boys were in. Shutting them in the large handicap stall Erika willed the moonstone to appear.
Reaching into her shorts pocket she pulled the large moonstone out, looping the chain around them. It settled around their hips as they pressed together, each holding half off the stone up to the wall. Aimee leaned in and breathed out, her breath almost like a mist. "Let us see." The mist slowly swirled around the stone and made part of the wall clear. Erika assumed it was one way type of thing and when she touched it she felt the tile of the women's room. Both were silent as they watched. Aaron and his click had gone back inside and now it was Kaleb and Pogue facing off against Tyler and Reid. Reid and Kaleb were arguing about something and both felt the power grow. As Reid took a step closer Kaleb did a push movement against the air and Reid flew back and hit the metal wall of the warehouse that was behind Nikkis. As he slid down Tyler moved to help and Kaleb stopped him with a look.
Both women stood with a hand over their mouth to stop from gasping. Reid struggled to stand and Erika felt anger burn inside of her. He lifted a hand and a keg slowly moved off the ground to float before him. They screamed something at one another and it all happened so fast. Reid threw the keg at Kaleb, who blocked it and sent another energy ball flying towards Erika's date who had tried to run across the alley way. Closing her eyes she wished with all her heart she could stop it. Her body tingled and when she opened her eyes she was in the alley. Lifting her hands she prepared for the worst but when that didn't happen she opened her eyes and saw that a ball of pulsating energy stayed balanced between her hands. Looking up she saw the shocked faces of Kaleb and Pogue, Tyler stumbling away from her because she had appeared too close for comfort.
Everyone was silent for a moment Kaleb took a step forward. Her grip on the energy tightened and she glared at the oldest Ipswich Son. The ball of energy took on a blue green blow instead of the gray that the boys seemed to use. There was noise behind her and she felt her shoulders tense. "Reid if you take one step closer to me I will drill the energy so far into your head it will get through even your thick skull." She bit out and kept her eyes on Kaleb.
"Erika... how did... how did you catch that?" Tyler finally asked.
"I knew it was you four using, I just knew it!" She said and moved to slowly crush the energy down. It became more bright as she did so but she managed to make it softball sized. "I can't believe you would use on one another. How stupid are you all?" She practically growled.
"Erika." Kaleb spoke and held up his hands in defense showing he meant no harm. She didn't give a damn. Turning her glare on him he flinches lightly. "Erika, how are you doing that? Just... put that down and we can talk it out."
Aimee appeared at the end of the alleyway, their car roaring to life as she revved the engine. Erika immediately took action and raced towards the three boys that stood in her way. Pogue and Tyler moved away but she heard Reid take off after her. Taking the ball of energy she threw it at Kaleb, the only boy in her way, and watched as he was blown back against the tin siding just like Reid had been. With the path clear she hurried and felt Reid close behind. Aimee held up a hand, palm flat and facing the alleyway. Erika ducked as a ball of red and silver energy flew past her head and hit Reid in the chest, throwing him a few feet back. Sliding across the hood like a badass she jumped into the car and slammed the door, Aimee already flipping their baby into first gear and flooring it.
They shot out of the Nikkis parking lot like the devil was on their tale. Hell, for all they knew he could be. As Erika looked back and didn't see anyone following she practically collapsed in the seat, trying to catch her breath. She had to have Aimee pull over a few miles up the road so she could empty her stomach. Drinking some water she had produced she was slightly pleased to find that her control was a lot better now. Almost like something inside her had changed and the power listened willingly.
"Okay, one: How the hell did you get through the wall!?" Aimee asked and eyed her best friend. Erika shook her head to show she had no idea, her words stuck in her sore throat. "And how the hell did we shoot energy from out hands?"
"Why are they different colors?" Erika asked and looked down at her fingers. It was Aimee's turn to shrug.
"So... whats our next move?"

The girls parked the car and flew up to their room, skipping steps as they went. Slamming the door shut the locked the dead bolt and put the chain on. Erika wove some magic over it so simple tricks wouldn't work to let someone in and they sat in the middle of their room. Erika whistled and the book appeared before them. Opening it she found the moonstone in her hand once more. "Show us." She demanded. The pages flipped as if a strong wind had blown through their window and slowed to stop on a page near the end. It listed other magical beings in their world. Erika read greedily and Aimee began to focus on the fire that she could control. She could now summon a lot more and slowly tossed a ball of it up and down.
"Ok, ok, I found something." Erika said and pushed the mop of red hair from her face so she could read hunched over. "There is one Covenant that last know was located near Salem, Massachusetts. It was made of five families: Pope, Danvers, Perry, Garwin, and Simms. The men of these families seem to have control over some sort of power that a natural witch cannot tap into. From studies it has been shown they get this power in their early teens as a sort of trial, ascending at the age of eighteen to get their full powers. Upon speaking with a member of this coven it has been revealed that once they do ascend the power becomes their life force in a way. Witness accounts state that men of no more than thirty look to be upon their death beds at eighty. Abusing this power kills them." Erika paused and flipped the page, Aimee leaning in to listen.
"Until their ascension there are no negative impacts upon their life but they also do not get their full power. It is also said that if an ascended member were to will their power to another they would die and all of their life power would go to the willed chosen one. This, of course, has been outlawed in the coven for their sake. One of the main families was killed as well, Pope, in the Salem Witch Hunts. From our last study only four families remain and they live in secrecy. Witches have reported feeling their power but that is rare as well. A tell of one of this coven is their eyes form a ring of fire that bleeds a darkness that takes over the whole eyes. It is unknown if they know about other covens or not." She finished the passage and looked at Aimee.
"Well.. surprise, motherfuckers." She joked lightly and went to grab her phone as it beeped. Glancing down one moment she saw Kaleb's name flash across the screen and ignored the call.
"Honestly, this doesn't have to be all dramatic." Erika said and shrugged. "If we can calmly explain to them that we have powers too... maybe they would be okay with it? Well, they should be, it would be kind of hypocritical if they were mean to us because we had powers when they have the exact same thing."
Hearing her own phone jingle she reached into her pocket and saw Reid's number flashing across her screen. Looking Aimee she bit her lip before sliding the accept. Putting the phone to her ear she kept eye contact with Aimee. "Yes, Reid?"
"We gonna talk about the ball from hell that Aimee flung at me?" He asked almost good-naturally. Erika couldn't help her grin.
"Well, we figured it would be even. I mean, I knocked Kaleb into the next dimension with mine. Fair is fair." She paused to hear him sigh with relief.
"I was so worried you would hate us, Erika." He said, emotion thick in his voice. She turned from Aimee and walked away from her best friend, the conversation suddenly too private. "Listen, we can explain everything. We would want information in return, of course, but once this is all cleared up it can go back to semi-normal at least."
"Yeah, we would be willing to do a meet up. Discuss what is going on." Peeking over she saw Aimee typing away at a text message.
"Can I see you tonight? This wasn't how I wanted our date to end." He admitted and she smiled softly. Glancing out the window she saw the moon slowly rising.
"No, not tonight. I need to process what exactly is going on." She confessed and opened the window. "How about... tomorrow? We could grab coffee or something?" Erika bit her lower lip and shrugged.
The line was silent a moment and she heard the sound of car doors closing. They must have just got back. "Yea... yeah, tomorrow would be cool. I am staying at my parents tonight to give you guys some space. Tyler will be with me. If you need anything just text me, okay?"
"I will. Goodnight, Reid."
"Night, Erika."
Hanging up she put her phone on the charger and looked over at Aimee. The woman was scowling and she flung her phone across the room. It bounced off the wall and landed unharmed because of the case. "Boys are so dumb." She growled and flung her covers back. Flopping into her bed Erika smiled.
"Going out for brunch tomorrow?"
"Of course. To talk. Because we are so terrifying. At least our eyes get more pretty when we use magic, not all creepy black." The blonde snipped and pulled the covers up. Erika smiled at her friend and rolled her eyes slightly. "I felt that eye roll!" Erika's laugh was quick and she settled into her own bed. She had a long day tomorrow between talking to Reid and figuring out what was going on with their powers. She closed her eyes and drifted off, thinking of the kiss.
