The earrings. So unassuming, so quietly elegant and beautifully dangerous, Phantom thought. But no, they were beautiful. Now, they were hideous enough to burn her eyes if she dared look too long.
They were a gift from Althalos, to show his affections. To show his... no, he never loved her. She had to remember that. No matter how heavy the truth became, she would face it, even if it decided that one day, it would devour her.
She could live with it. She didn't need his love, but he used her. Why did he use her? Lie to her? "Pathetic excuse for a gift." Phantom muttered, flinging the earrings carelessly back in the jewelry box. Why not just throw them away? A small part of her wondered, but then abruptly stopped. She would still hold onto them for a little longer, just in case. She would still hold onto him... just in case.
