Love Letters and Purple Sweaters

The beginning of this is inspired by a real-life situation I had. It's also kind of an AU. Just a quick note, it's my first tme writing something like this. (foreshadowing to the extreme)

September 22nd. 

School had just recently started, so everyone was only getting settled in. Nagisa had already adapted super quickly; after all, he had enough friends for school to be enjoyable. His best friend, Rei, on the other hand, wasn't as lucky. He hadn't made many friends as he never really was a people-person. He seems like someone who would be, but surprisingly he isn't.

Nagisa was heading over to Rei's house, as he'd promise to come over. Usually it was Rei who came to get Nagisa, but Nagisa decided he'd surprise Rei today. He skipped up the small stone path in front of his house and approached the front door, knocking on it lightly. He stood at the door, standing on his toes as he anxiously waited for Rei to answer the door. After a few moments, the door was opened.

"Good morning Rei-chan!" Nagisa's voice was bright and cheery as he waved a hello, his pink eyes lighting up at the sight of his best friend. 

"Nagisa-kun, what are you doing here? It's super early!"

"Oh... Oops! I didn't notice it was only 7:00... sorry!" Nagisa said, letting out a faint laugh.

"Oh well. Come in, you're letting in the cold."

"Thanks, Rei-chan!" 

Rei sighed, letting out a yawn. He walked into his house, returning to the kitchen. Nagisa followed the blue-haired teen inside. Rei had been eating his breakfast before Nagisa came to the door, so had sat back down to finish his meal.

"Rei you have such balanced meals!" Nagisa added in, finding it necessary to add random comments. "All you have for breakfast is pancakes," Rei said, giving the shorter teen a glance.

"They're good! Especially with maple syrup, Nutella and whip cream!"

By now Nagisa was lost in his own little sugar wonderland so he hadn't caught Rei's last comment. Rei sighed, knowing the blonde hadn't heard him. "Well I'm ready, but we have about 30 minutes before we should leave." Rei stood up and tucked in his chair before bringing his plate to the kitchen sink.

"We should leave early, I know a cool way to get there!" Nagisa chimed in again, jumping up in excitement. 

Rei was about to object, since he was extremely tired from doing his homework all in night; But he knew there was no point. He sighed, letting out another faint yawn. "Alright, just let me get my sw-"

"You mean this one?"

"Nagisa-kun, can I please have my sweater?"

Rei reached out a hand, expecting Nagisa to hand over the piece of clothing. Instead, the blonde turned on his heels and darted away, letting out loud, obnoxious laughter.

"Nagisa, I-"

"Only if you can catch me!"

By now Nagisa was already upstairs and probably trying to hide somewhere. Rei chased after the smaller teen, calling to to him  in an irritated tone. Rei searched his room first but was unable to find him. He then checked the spare bedroom, still unsuccessful in finding the bright-eyed blonde. He was about to check behind the shower curtain in the bathroom when suddenly he heard loud scrambling from outside the bathroom. He darted to see if he could catch the blonde but all he saw was a flurry of blonde hair, pink and purple.
