The sound of your voice

It had Been three years since Kevin Price had met Conner McKinley. Two and Half since they started date. And It had been a month since Kevin purposed.

But this day was a special day. This was the day that Kevin was going to hear Conner's voice... For the first time. Hours ago, He had received the surgery he'd been waiting on for the last 15 years. He had received Cochlear Implants.

These Implants would give him the ability to hear. Not perfectly... But he would be able to understand and Hear. He hadn't heard a sound since he was seven years old. He had gotten incredibly sick... It was honestly a miracle he survived it. But he had lost all hearing. The doctor had suggested the Implants then but they couldn't afford it. He had Spent 15 whole years needing a translator. And When he was sent on his mission... His Translator refused to go to Uganda with him. She said Uganda was not a place she was willing to go for any reason. And His parents didn't have the money to hire a new one the day before he left, So he was left to fend for himself.

He could speak, and He had no accent when doing so... So he could be easily understood... However he never learned to read lips. So he couldn't understand anyone who wasnt signing. Going it alone was very hard on him. But when He met Conner.. The weight fell if his shoulders. Having been warned of this, Conner greeted him in Sign language as he walked through the door of the mission center. If you were to ask him now... Kevin would tell you that that is the exact moment he fell in love with the Irish Mormon.

For three years, Conner had been translating for Kevin...And now Kevin was finally going to hear his favorite person's voice. He walked with Conner into the Doctors office. He had gotten some rest after the surgery, Went home for a while, Then came here to the doctor to get the implants turned on.

He held Conner's hand tight, Staying absolutely silent. He was very nervous. He hadn't heard a thing in so long... He wasn't sure what it'd be like. As the walked to the waiting room, Kevin took a seat and Conner walked to the front desk. He talked quietly to the woman and went to sit by Kevin. He tapped gently on His fiance's shoulder. In conner s hand was his phone. He was video taping everything today.

Kevin's attention shifted to Conner and the redhead offered a Smile. "are you okay?" Conner signed, carefully observing Kevin's face. Kevin nodded softly. "Yes I'm fine." He signed back, returning a tiny smile.

"Are you nervous?"

"No."

"Are you sure?"

"No."

Conner grabbed Kevin's hand and kissed his cheek, Holding up the "I Love You" Sign.

Kevin's smile grew as he saw that. "I love you too." He whispered. He didn't talk outloud a whole lot. And when he did it excited Conner. It made him really happy.

The doctor called them back and Conner got up. Kevin didn't. He didn't realize Conner had stood up.

Conner gently put his hand on Kevin's shoulder. Kevin's head snapped up. "Its time." Conner signed.

Kevin's eyes widened a little. "Really?" He whispered. When Conner nodded and smiled, Kevin felt his stomach churn.

Slowly he stood up and took Conner's hand squeezing it tight. The two boys walked back to the room and The doctor Conner Sit outside the room for a few minutes while they got it started. Kevin sat in an office chair and Bit his lip. They had a translator in the room already. She was tall and blonde. Kevin watched her sign as the doctor spoke. "Okay Kevin. We are going to turn on the Cochlears now... Alright so for a moment its going to sound really weird. Its going to be loud and Sorta high."
