Dapplefur plunges her tongue into the water and laps it up. The water was in a small pool inside her den. Her medicine cat den was a thick bush that was cleared out on the inside. Her fur was chilled from the early spring frost and she gave it a few licks. She looks at the skinny bundle of fur in the corner of her den. Hawkmoon was sick as usual. Being born with a low immune system was what kept him from being an apprentice for a half moon. Though he trained for eleven moons because he had so many sick days, Beaverstar only gave him a warrior name out of pitty. Though he was weak, Hawkmoon has the biggest heart she's ever seen. Dapplefur hopes one day, as terrible as it sounds, he'll give up his dream of being a warrior and be her apprentice. He has such a niche for remembering things. He already talk with Dapplefur about herbs when she's treating other cats.
Dapplefur turns away from the sleeping tom and glances to her herb store. It was dwindling but she could make due.
"Hey, Dapplefur, can you get Mousewing some poppy seeds?"
Dapplefur turns around and sees the she-cat known as Willowwind. She was a tan she-cat with gree eyes. She was definitely pretty but  Dapplefur had no interest in her. Dapplefur smiles at the she-cat and mews, "Yes, definitely. I'll be right to her."
Willowwind springs out of the den and into the clearing.
Dapplefur never had anytime to herself anymore. With her being the only medicine-cat now days. after Moonwhisper died, she had her paws full with caring for all the clan cats' health.

Dapplefur puts a paw in her herb store and pulls out just a few poppy seeds. She wraps them in a small leaf and carries the bundle out of the den.
She looks back at Hawkmoon and sighs. Out of the den she goes and up the light slope of the camp to the elders' den. The elders' den was a willow tree surrounded by a thick nettle patch.
Dapplefur pushes her head into the willow and mews, "Mousewing, I'm here." She slides her body the rest of the way in and sits down next to the grey she-cat.
The old grey tabby raises her head and smiles, "Silly one, it took you long enough." The old she-cat chuckled and motioned for the seeds. Dapplefur drops the bundle. Mousewing licks up the seeds and swallows the tiny beads. "Thank you, Dapplefur. Hopefully I can sleep better tonight."
Dapplefur smiles softly and looks to where the old orange tabby tom, Sheepwhisker, sit. He was grumpy but accepting, like Mousewing. They're the only cats who know, and accepted, me as gay.
Sheepwhisker wobbles over to where they were sitting and mumbles, "How's it going with Shallowpool?" Dapplefur looks around before stuttering out, "I- I haven't told her yet." Dapplefur directs her gaze away from the two cats. "What?" They bother say it in unison, "Hun, you need to tell her about how you feel. You can't just keep it pent up inside." Mousewing's voice is sweet but painful.
Dapplefur didn't want to tell Shallowpool how she felt. Shallowpool is her best friend.
