The Better Raccoon

Flaky's Pick

Lifty had just gotten home when he saw his brother running to catch up with him. "What did you do?" he asked scowling. Shifty crossed his arms. "Nothing! She walked into the bathrooms so I couldn't follow!" Lifty shut the door. "Well it figures." He said. Shifty seemed uneasy. "Tomorrow we're going back..." The other raccoon walked over to the sofa. "I'm telling you, she doesn't like either of us..." Shifty just sighed angrily. "Well we're still gonna see what she says."

The next morning, the two raccoons got out of their rooms and went downstairs. Shifty decided to take more flowers, and he got into their van; leaving his brother behind. "Hey!" Lifty shouted chasing the van as Shifty backed up. "Sorry! But she's gonna pick me; since you won't even be there!" he laughed heartily as he turned and sped off. Lifty frowned and stared in shock. He couldn't believe his brother. Well he could, actually. He did stuff like this to him all the time. Lifty decided to just walk to the park. It wasn't too far, he'd probably get there 10 minutes after Shifty...

When Lifty arrived at the park he was surprised to find Shifty struggling to get Flaky to take his flowers. "Just....come...on!" He growled. Flaky flinched and backed away. Lifty just stared. Flaky finally took the flowers and sighed. "Bro, just stop...I'm leaving..." Lifty said, making them both look at him. "No! I want an answer! Flaky, who's the better raccoon? Me right?" Flaky just looked at each raccoon brother frowning. "Bro...it's neither of us. Let's leave her alone..." Lifty said turning to walk away.

"Lifty." The two of them froze and looked at Flaky. "What?" Shifty said a little loudly. "I pick Lifty." Flaky repeated, with a small smile. "Why??? I gave you flowers and called you pretty! He only gave you money!" Shifty said angrily. "I thought you didn't like either of us?" Lifty asked dumbfounded. "I don't. Well not really. But Lifty wanted to leave me be. That's why he's better." Lifty couldn't keep a big smile from forming on his face; not his dumb toothy stealing smile, but a genuine one of happiness. "Ehehee...thank you Flaky..." He said quietly.

"NO FAIR, NO FAIR!" Shifty shouted, obviously very mad. Flaky and Lifty just watched as Shifty stormed out of the park. Lifty and Flaky just glanced at each other; and then giggled. "Boy, he's mad." Lifty laughed. Flaky nodded. Lifty found himself staring, but then he looked away. "Hey...uhh, I better go get him. Maybe I'll see you around?" Flaky smiled. "Yeah...I'll see you around."
