By the time we got home from school I was not only tired, but just about starving. Man could I go for some pizza! ‘’Hey guys, lets order some food!’’ When I got out my phone I pressed one because the only local pizza palace was on speed dial. Sad, I know right?
‘’Hello,’’ a rather gruff voice said.
‘’Hey Pete!’’ I practically screamed.
His voice immediately filled with excitement. ‘’ Hey Kiddo! Hows your mom and pop?’’ Pete was my lovely parents friend. He was only twenty six but he towered a total of six five and had a used look, as one might say, that made him look about fifty. That was fine though, everyone still adored him because of his child like attitude when you get to know him. For example, he’s the reason I once snuck out. Hint on that ‘once’ portion of it. I got caught and was grounded for three weeks. Yeah, turns out the window I left through got locked and when I tried to climb through the second story window… I woke up my old man. I just wanted some ice cream and Pete happened to be willing to pay for it!
‘’Camille, you’re dreaming in the day again…’’ Shoot! I began mumbling sorry while Pete just laughed. Stupid thoughts. ‘’Anyway, what do you want?’’
‘’My usual, duh.’’ I made my voice sound monotone but in all honesty, I was quite happy to have a usual that I could enjoy with my friends.
‘’Sounds good. See you in five,’’ then the phone went silent on the other end and I took that as my cue to hang up. I marched over to my dark gray corduroy couch and plopped down while my friends joined me. We turned on a favorite show of ours, Lost, and began to watch. However, no sooner did we get lost in the show to get found in the real world again when my door bell rang.
I hopped up from the couch and made my way to our door. ‘’ Hiya Pete!’’ I preached as I yanked the door open. He was wearing his plaid pizza shirt and boy did it make him look even older!
‘’Hey Camille! Here it is! My master piece! My Piece de resistance! My-‘’ I cut him off.
‘’Yeah yeah, I get it! Now give mama her good eats!’’ I rubbed my hands together and licked my lips at the thought of shoveling down all the gooey goodness that is my bacon, pineapple, and onion pizza. It sounds gross, I know, but it’s so darn yummy! ‘’Come in Pete! Just set the Pepsi and pizza on the coffee table, by the TV. Join us! We’ve got plenty,’’ The big fellow (aka Pete) marched in and set down the meal. However, he shoved his hands in his pockets and mumbled a frustrated goodbye, saying that he had to get back to work, even though he’d love to stay. What can I say, were just so awesome that my parent’s friends wanna hang out with us…although, Pete is quite young.
Anyway, we all began to chow down on our meal as a worn out Pete left my house with a thud and practically made the temperature go down a few degrees with the gust of wind that came with the door shutting. ‘’What’s Pete’s problem?’’ Ashton bit in between his food.
‘’He just has to go back-‘’
‘’Stop talking! You just missed what happened!’’ Tuesday interrupted me.
‘’Fine.’’ Ashton narrowed his eyes and crossed his arms. Which was way too funny! He looked like a small child pouting! Though we listened to what Tuesday said and we watched the show again, I couldn’t help but notice all the pain spreading through my back. This was worse than ever before-and now I was concerned. I mean what on earth?! This has never happened before, and although I was focusing on my back pain, I couldn’t help but notice the growing feeling that something was about to happen. However, I couldn’t tell if it was good-or bad.
‘’Guys, after we’re done, can you guys leave? My back hurts really bad.’’
‘’Again?’’ Tuesday followed Ashton in replying with a solid ‘’Sure, maybe you should see a doctor. ‘’
‘’No my mom won’t let me! Crazy, right? What mom doesn’t want their child to be healthy at the hands of a doctor? Although I don’t know why I just don’t go to the doctors myself…’’ I walked to the telephone as my friend cheered me on. Why? Probably because this is just about the most rebellious thing I’ve done so far. Calling the doctor’s office when my mother told me not to, woo hoo. I’m such a rebel.
‘’Hello! This is Heart Healthy’s doctoring office. If you need us, just give a ring. We’ll help you just like that!’’ The cheery lady then added a finger snap at the end. What a nice gal.
‘’Hi, my name is Camille Kayla Anderson and I’m calling due to the fact that I’ve had some very horrible back pains the last few days,’’
‘’And has the pain shifted places?’’ Wow! She could even fake a concerned voice. Who knew?
‘’No, it hasn’t’’
She let out a breath I guess she didn’t realize she’s been holding because the next sentence that came out had a hint of surprised tone in it, ‘’ Alright…so we have an appointment available tomorrow at four if you’d like.’’
‘’That would be great! Thanks so much!’’ I then hung up my tan phone and moved back to the couch where my buds and I munched down on food and divulged in television for the next few hours. Which was way too much for my liking. It was eleven thirty by the time they left and I know it’s early but, I wanted nothing more than to go to sleep on this interesting enough of a Friday. So, practically crawling up the stairs, I reached my bedroom just in time to realize that I still had to actually get ready for bed. Yay. I picked myself up and marched my way to the bathroom where I did all the necessary actions to get ready for bed. And only the necessary actions. I then dragged my way to bed and pulled myself under the covers. Then I dosed off with one thought in mind: When did my back stop hurting?
