On The Beach

Three girls, Cami, Hailey, and Diana, were on the beach at Oak Island late one summer afternoon. The sky was a dull blue color, so there wasn't much sun. The waves were rougher than usual. Today is going to be a great day, Hailey thought.
"Hey! We should go out into the water and see how deep we can go!", stated Cami.
"Yeah! That sounds like fun! Race you there!", cheered Hailey.
Diana wasn't really a water person. She hated the water, but she went out with her friends into the deep water anyway.      The girls went out until their feet barely touched the soft ocean floor.
"Let's go out farther! I think its better in really deep water.", shouted Cami. Cami was a daredevil, if you asked her to go skydiving off the side of a cliff, she would. She would do anything. This time, maybe it was a bit too far.
"I think this is deep enough Cami! You know what happens when you go out too far!", shouted Hailey. The waves started to get more rough as the sky quickly turned black. These waves are too rough, I think I should head back to shore, Hailey thought.
"Cami, i'm going back to sho-", Hailey was interrupted by Cami's loud screaming and splashing. Oh my gosh! I think she's drowning!! Hailey thought.

Cami was in fact drowning. She had gone out way too far and a huge wave carried her under. Every time she got back above the water, another gigantic wave carried her under. Diana had already swam back to shore. Hailey had to swim out as fast as she could against the giant waves to reach Cami so she didn't drown. When Hailey reached her, she put her above the water again and onto her back. She swam back to shore as fast as she could. She finally reached the shore.
Cami was still choking up water when they were sitting there. After she got better, she said, "H-Hailey, yo-ou saved my life, tha-ank you. I don't know w-what I would do without you. Thank you."
"Cami, I am so happy I found you. I was getting super worried and didn't know if I would find you, but I did. Just promise me something okay?" Puffed Hailey.
            "Yeah?"
"Promise me you won't go out there again, promise. Don't ever go out that far again."
"I promise. I learned my lesson. It was getting scary so I tried swimming back to shore but as I lifted my arm up to start swimming, a wave came over me and I just thought I could do it and-"
"Hey, hey, hey, take it easy, its okay, it happens, take a deep breath. Calm down, it will be okay. Okay? I love you Cami. Remember that."
"I can't believe you went out that far, but I'm glad you're here now. I love you too Cami." Exclaimed Diana.
The girls were all Tuckered out, so they fell asleep on the beach, with Cami closer to the water, and Hailey and Diana were up by the dunes.

The next morning, Diana was the first awake. She wandered around the beach while her friends were still asleep- well, one of them. Hailey was sound asleep by the dunes, while Cami was nowhere in sight. Diana raced around the beach to find her, but she couldn't. She quickly ran over to Hailey and shook her awake.
"Wake up Hailey!" Diana said, in shock.
"Morning to you too. What's wrong? And where's Cami? Have you seen her today?" Hailey said, with a morning/ raspy voice.
"No, I haven't seen her all day and I have no idea where she went! There's nowhere to go except for down the beach, in the water, and home. But home is 4 hours away from here, so I don't think she went home. Will you help me find her?"
"Yeah, I guess, let me change my clothes, they're covered in sand." Hailey puffed. A few minutes later, Hailey and Diana started searching. They went up and down the beach until they met again in the middle.
"I haven't seen her! Where the heck is she?" Said Diana.
"I don't know. Maybe she wen- oh no. Oh please no. That can't be her. On god no please no!" Cried Hailey.
"What!" Diana said, as she slowly turned around to see a body floating in the water, lifeless. As they got closer, they realized it was Cami. They also realized that the water was a bit damp, so the tide must have came in while they were asleep and took Cam in with it.
Hailey rushed into the water to get her out and onto the shore. She was limp and cold and lifeless. When she got back up to the shore, she tried giving her CPR, but it didn't work. She tried squeezing her, to get the water out, but it didn't work. Nothing worked. She was really dead. And they couldn't do anything about it.
"I wish I could have saved her, I knew the tide would come in while she was sleeping! Why didn't I warn her! Ugh!" Diana said, frustrated with herself.
"Diana, calm down. Its not your .fault. Its not my fault. Its not her fault. I don't think she knew the water would come up during the night and take her away- this is too much. I can't handle this. Give me a minute please" cried Diana.
"OK, I need a minute too. Just to take it all in, I guess."
20 minutes passed, and Hailey couldn't take it. She started bawling and couldn't stop. Cami had been her best friend for 6 years. Diana has been her best friend for 3 years. They were all very close friends.
          And she's dead, Hailey thought.

The ambulance arrived 10 minutes later- along with the police. They examined Cami's body, and she was, in fact, dead. They took her away. Diana called Cami's parents on her phone and told them the news. They were devastated. They planned her funeral for August 10th. Hailey and Diana went home that day, in tears.
Three weeks later, Hailey and Diana attended Cami's funeral. When they buried her, everyone but Hailey and Diana left. Hailey lied down a CD from her favorite band, One Direction, and her favorite flowers, pink roses. Diana lied down a picture of all three of them from when they were in Washington for a vacation. We'll see you soon, thought Hailey.

A couple weeks passed, and school started. Diana had already gotten over it, but Hailey was still taking her death very hard. She had to go to the bathroom multiple times so she wouldn't start crying in class. One day, she couldn't take it any longer. She started bawling in the middle of class. She quickly headed out the door and went to the counselor's office to talk to her about Cami.
"Hello Hailey! How are you toda- oh my, what's wrong honey?" Her counselor said.
"I j-j-ust can't get over the fact t-that my best friend i-is gone. I wish I could be w-with her right now. I miss her so much it hurts."
"Hailey, I know how you feel. When I was 17, my best friend of 10 years died in a car crash. I was devastated. I didn't get over it 'till five months later it seemed like. But I know you can. Take a deep breath and think about all the good times you had with her. Think about the happy times. She is still in your heart. She still loves you. She is still here with you, you just can't see her."
"Yeah, I guess that would help. Oh my gosh I remember this one time we went to Cami's birthday party and right when Cami leaned down to take a bite of her cake, Diana smashed it into her face and it was everywhere. That was so funny I couldn't stop laughing. It was a great time."
"See! Don't you feel better? Just think of the good times. I will help you get over it."
"Yeah. Thank you. You helped me today. I am forever thankful. Do I need a note to get to class?"
"You're welcome. And yes, here you go. Have an awesome day."
Hailey left that day with a smile on her face. It was the first time she has smiled in almost two months. This is a good day, Hailey thought. Diana noticed she was happy, and she lit up with happiness.
"I'm so glad you're happy Hailey. It's a great sight." Diana cheered.
Hailey eventually got over Cami, but she kept her in her heart. See you soon, love youHailey said.
