Before It All Began

Chapter 4

Two months have passed by now and a few things have happened. Hera and Kanan bed become a couple so the woman moved in the her new boyfriend and Ezra; she treated the child like her own, as did Kanan. They were very happy. Kanan continued to work at the bar, sometimes allowing Ezra to come along when Hera couldn't watch him due to her own work....which she had never explained. Today, the three were sat the the table eating breakfast when Hera spoke up; she had been acting strange for the past few days. "Kanan, Ezra...I need to ask you both something" all attention turned to the woman "I've never really explained my job to you...I'm apart of a growing rebellion...a rebellion against the Empire" both of the boys eyes widened "but you see...I have to start going on assigned missions" she explained "but I don't want to do this without you so...I'm asking if you'll join me as a rebel". Honestly, Kanan thought it was a great idea and agreed but Ezra....not so much "no" they eyes turned to the six year old "why no Ezra?? We'll live on a ship, explore and travel all over the galaxies, help others from the Empire and give people hope" Kanan asked as his girlfriend agreed; Ezra still shook his head "I said no!!". 

That was a shock, the boy had never raised his voice before, especially at the two adults "you two can go and get yourselves killed if you want!! But I'm not going!!" he yelled before jumping down from his seat and running towards the front door; Kanan was thankfully faster then the child. He gently gripped onto Ezra's arm and pulled him back, soon picking him up before returning him to his seat; the two adults crouched down so that they were both eye level with the boy. Kanan nicely lifted his charges chin up so they could look at his face but were heart broken to see Ezra had tears streaming down his cheeks. "Oh Ezra" the man sighed "why don't you want to help?? And why do you think we'll be killed??" he asked, his girlfriend crouched next to him to listen to the kid "I do want to help!! I tried many times before and so did my parents, they did the Bridger broadcasts" the two adults eyes widened in utter shock. The Bridger broadcasts were well known on Lothal; they were the only thing that showed any resilience or rebellion against the Empire. Everyone that wasn't an Imperial loved them for their broadcasts but many years ago, they suddenly stopped. Now Kanan knew where the kids second name sounded so familiar. "But look where that got them!! The Empire invaded my home and killed them!! Right...right in front of my eyes" he was forced to pause for a moment to fight back tears "I lot my parents...and I can't lose you guys too". 

What Ezra had said hit the couple hard, in both a good and bad way. They knew the Empire had killed the boys parents but they had no idea why, and he was saying no because he cared for them. Hera pulled the boy into a tight embrace, her boyfriend then doing the same but with both of them "Ezra...I swear to you, nothing bad will happen to us" she reassured "we'll fight the Empire together...as a family" the man agreed with the statement "...okay, but I'm holding to that promise". And with that, they began to pack their things; Kanan rushed off to the bar to inform his boss that he quit. After travelling twenty one miles out of town, they came upon a large ship; Hera stated it was her baby, the Ghost. She showed them around, ending with the cabins; Ezra was more then excited to discover he was going to have his own room!! As well as allowed to pick which cabin he wanted!! After picking, they all settled in, unpacking and putting things in place, as well as thinking the same thing. 'Today was a happy yet odd and life changing day'.
