BOOM! As the explosion went off blowing open a house, two boys dove into a nearby ditch. Their names are Marco and Will. This war will be changing their lives. Story has it Marco and Will are wanted thieves, however they are both just 14. Marco snatches Will by the shirt and hoists him to his feet, and pushes him out of the ditch. Marco is yelling for help, but nobody can hear him over the gunfire and few explosions. Another bomb explodes nearby, making Marco's chest rattle. The battle rages on all sides of the boys, bullets zipping past their heads and bombs shaking the ground beneath their feet. Marco feels Will go limp and fall to the ground from the explosion. Marco groans as if this is a normal occurrence. He rolls him back into the ditch and proceeds to look for a good spot to hide. The terrain is full of flashing from gunfire and explosions. The little town had gone from a peaceful farm town, to a mass grave overnight. Finally Marco spots a little run down barn. He looks over his shoulder at Will who is sitting in the muddy ditch rubbing his eyes. "Will!" Marco shouts, "Follow me!". Marco looks at him with groggy eyes and gives him a thumbs up. The two run down the street to the barn hoping not to find soldiers of any kind. The two safely make it to their destination. Will peeks his head in and goes in, waving at Marco to do the same. The two sit in the corner as day becomes dusk. The two boys slowly manage to fall asleep.

Marco is shaken awake. He opens his eyes to Will shouting something. "Th-th-the d-door!!!" He yells, "They set the town on fire!". Marco pokes his head out the door that is revealing that his hometown is indeed set on fire. Marco looks down at the dirt stunned wondering why someone would do something like this. Will kicked his shin, "Ow! What was that for?!" Marco screamed. "We have to get out of here the barn is on fire!" Will replied. Marco looked around realizing that it indeed was catching flame. The boys look at each other and rush out the door.

The boys were on the run again. "I know where we can hide and its not to far from here." Marco said. So they went on their way from cover to cover, sneaking past soldiers, and running hard for long empty stretches. They got to the very edge of the town, "Oh no." whispered Will. Marco saw it to. There was a blockade making sure nobody got in or out of the town. "We'll have to sneak through that corn field over there" Marco said, pointing at the field. Will gave a small nervous nod. Marco pushed Will to start running when the soldiers had their heads turned. Off they went into the corn field. They crashed through the corn stalks, then veered out back onto the road. They looked behind them and saw they had put about three quarters of a mile between them and the blockade.
