In the corporate box where I'm standing with the Wives has food on it. The Wives pick up their plates and pile food onto it. They walk over to the table in the far corner away from the Girlfriends.
I pick up a plate and put some fruit and bread on my plate. I take it over the Wives table. One of the Wives look at my plate? "Is that all your going to eat?"
I shake my head. "I'm going to get a sausage roll when they bring in the hot food."
The Wife smiles. "How do you know about the types of food we're served in this box?"
"I used to watch football games in the corporate boxes with my parents." Before they turned against me.
The Girlfriends walk over to the table and fill up their plates and they walk to the table on the other side of the room.
I wonder if the team know that the Girlfriends and Wives hate each other.
I hear cheering coming from outside.
The wives and I throw our plates in the bin and we walk down the stairs to where the family of the football players sit.
I see a couple of kids with their nannies.
A little girl looks at one of the wives and she runs over to her mother. "Mummy."
The wife picks up her daughter. "Samantha, I want you to meet my little girl Amber Rose."
I move toward the little girl and smile. "I'm Samantha."
The little girl points to my belly. "You're fat,"
The wife mouths. "Sorry,"
"I'm not fat, princess. I'm pregnant."
"Who's the babies, Dad?"
I smile as I think of Maddox. "The father is Maddox Colt."
The little girl crosses her arms and pouts. "He's mine. Mummy, Maddox, is mine." She screams.
Aw, cute.
She looks onto the field. "I don't like you."
I laugh.
The wife puts the girl on the ground and she runs away. "My daughter isn't normally rude. She must be in a cranky mood from not sleeping."
"That's alright. How close is your daughter and Maddox?"
"Maddox and my husband Finn Garnett are Best Friends."
"You're Liz Garnett. Why couldn't I remember who you looked like?"
She laughs. "It feels good to have someone not recognise me, I guess you don't really watch the reality TV The Wives and Girlfriends of Football Players?"
I shake my head. "No,"
"Good, cause that show sucks." She shrugs. "The Wives and Girlfriends are on the show. Our producers are going to ask you to join us on the show."
That's not going to happen. I'm not going to sell my soul to some blood sucking reality show.
"Are they filming today?"
Liz shakes her head. "No, they let us have three weeks off the new season to ourselves. Maddox hasn't been on the show yet. Our producers keep hounding him to join the group on the show. He always come up with a way to avoid it."
"I don't want to talk about the show. It creeps me out the thought of having my personnel life splashed everywhere with a reality show. I'm not sure I'll ever be ready for anything then being the gossip mags with Maddox."
A guy in a suit walks down the stairs with a thick envelope. The Wives and Girlfriends all sit on opposite sides of the stand. "Wives and Girlfriends. I'm here with a contract for our new Wife to join our show." He gives me the envelope. "You need to sign the contract before any filming is done."
I take it from him.
I want to know what's in the contract. I remind myself. You don't need to sign it.
The tigers run onto the field. I cheer for the team.
Maddox waves at me from across the field.
I mouth. "Good luck. I love you."
"I love you, too, Sam." He mouths back.
Maddox puts his helmet on and faces the opposition. The tigers have the ball first. Maddox catches the ball and he runs down the field.
The opposition tackle him and he stands up and pushes the ball back to the player on his team.
I can't read the numbers on the jersey as they pass the ball back and forth and get tackled.
It's change-over and the opposition starts with the ball. I see someone from the tigers tackle this guy that's built like a bulldozer. The tiger's player lands on his back and he crashes into the player.
The tiger's player is still on the ground and the referee calls 'Time," the player is put on the stretcher.
"Did you see who is was?" I ask.
Liz nods. "It was Harvey Jones. He'll be fine."
The game continues as Harvey is taken off the field. The crowd applaud. Why the hell do they applaud when someone is taken off the field for injury?
I turn back to the game.
The Tiger's score. Then the bell rings for Half Time.
I pull the thick yellow envelope out of my bag.
The Wives and Girlfriends of Football Players Contract
The production crew can show up at your personal house at any time to film and/or to take anything they want, as long as they return the objects once production has ended.
I don't like the sound of them showing up anytime.
There a whole heap of other information in the contract and I shake my head. I might see an entertainment Attorney before I sign a contract for my privacy to be invaded by reality TV.
The Tigers win by 20.
I walk to the players shed and wait for Maddox to come out.
The Tiger's players walk out the door. Maddox searches for me in the crowd and I wave to him.
He runs to me and lifts me up. "I missed you."
"Me too."
He looks at the yellow envelope in my handbag. "What's that?"
I sigh. "It's a contract."
"For?"
"The Wives and Girlfriends of Football Players."
Maddox shakes his head. "No, we aren't going to do that show. I like having privacy and I don't want those people to dig into my pass. Which is why I've refused to let them film me. I don't want you to be a part of that. They will dig into your pass and find out that my cousin cheated on you with your sister and they got pregnant and married on your wedding day using the places you already hired out."
"I wasn't going to sign it. I was going to see an Entertainment Attorney before I did anything like sign this contract. You know if I did sign this our baby would be filmed and I don't want that to happen."
Maddox takes my hand and we walks to the car. He opens the door for me and shuts it once I'm seated.
