The alarm was blaring and beeping in my ear forcing me and the 3 other girls, whom shared the room with me awake. I tried to pull the pillow over my head but heard the loud bang on the bedroom door forcing me from the dream I had just been in. Sighing I slowly drag myself from the bed as I begin to pull the days clothes from one of the four dressers in the room. "Kim, you should wear that plaid shirt with those boots." A girl named Kelly says pointing to the purple plaided flannel and the black combat boots on the floor. Taking her advice I pulled the shirt over my black tank leaving it unbuttoned as, I trust a pair of my favorite jeans on my legs.
As all of us piled into the bathroom across the hall, each girl began to fix their face, brush their teeth, or do their hair. Taking my tooth brush and a comb from a draw, I begin to brush my teeth and comb through my black short hair. As I placed the tooth brush in the water and in a cup, I catch my sea green eyes and freckled covered face in the mirror as the memory of my parents hit me.
"She has your eyes James" My mother says smiling at nine year old me. "She has your smile" My father responds glimpsing quickly to my mother. That glimpse. That little glimpse lost me my parents forever.
I sigh as I force myself with bag in hand down the stairs. The smile, my mother's smiles, hasn't touched my lips in many years. "Kimmy, you should eat" My foster mother says handing me a granola bar as I sit upon the table. "I'm not hungry" I respond laying my head on the table. Sighing she quips "Breakfast is important" I feel the bar against my arm. Raising my head I shrug and slowly eat the bar. I felt more down then usual today... Like something might happen. Trusting my instincts have always lead to be right.
As the wrapper becomes empty the horn of a bus quiets the many girls ranging from 12 to 15. We all rush from the room half the girls getting on the middle school bus and the other half getting on my bus. Paper balls flew around aimlessly as I walked to the back of the bus to sit with my remarkable beautiful best friend. Her name was Elizabeth Danielle Andrew, she was my age until I turned 16 next month on Halloween. As I finally reach the seat of my blonde headed, blue eyed best friend I smirk and ask "How's pops today?" "Still kickin" She replies with a smile touching her lips. "Did you speak with your parents last night?" I ask knowing she'd tell me any question that fell from my lips. "Dad said him and mom might be home this weekend!" She replies seeming to be happy. "That's good" I reply as she quickly adds "Dad also said that he'd talk to mom about maybe taking you in... as like my sister." My breath held in my throat as a smile tried to escape my walls. "I wish they were here now" She says frowning slightly. I knew how she felt wishing to have your parents when they were so far away. My hand went to the chain necklace holing the locket and my parent's wedding rings.
We had continued to talk as the conversations seemed to drag by we had
