Prologue

Dearest sister,

With great power comes great responsibility; that is what I have learnt. When a dragon chooses a rider, it is only because they are thought to be pure of heart and deserving enough and then they become bound for life. Known as the Tamed they were renowned for their bravery and power. I have learnt so much since I've been here, for example how the knights became so hateful toward the Tamed. It was all because for one rider named Kane the power of the dragons just wasn't enough, he conjured the idea that because he was such a powerful rider, he deserved to be the High King.

In his quest for the throne his heart had become tainted with greed as well as those who followed him. They struck down the High King in cold blood darkening their souls beyond repent. The son of the fallen king was left with a black heart full of hatred toward all dragons and their riders and ordered a culling on the Tamed a trait which he unfortunately handed down the family line. The Dark riders who killed the King were the first to be targeted and then the rest of the Tamed fell soon after. They found out how to identify them: the scorch mark that is granted to the rider when the first connection is made with their dragon. So this lead to the Knights finding almost everyone including entire rider families; newborns and all were slaughtered and their dragons enslaved.

They say there is nothing left of the once inspiring dragon riders and I must admit the world does feel slightly empty and a little lonely. Dragons are no longer a symbol of power, pureness and mystery now they have been submitted to a show of wealth, they were imprisoned, maimed, enslaved; their wings sawn off in order to prevent escape and to show submission. This saddens me tremendously.

The world has plummeted into darkness and needs to be restored. The Queen is expecting a child. The only way to fix things is to make a ruler that will be just as worthy to the Knights as to the Tamed. I will fix this my sister. I will reverse the hatred and make the world a better place. All I have to do is figure out how.
