Max's P.O.V

I couldn't look at Amber knowing that we didn't do anything to help her and now she's dead. At least thats what I heard. Janice told us she couldn't save Amber but there was something off about her. Once we left the infirmary with tears streaming down our face, I went back in to get my jacket when I overheard Janice talking to someone on the phone. She said something about how "she" was gone and we wouldn't be able to find her. I decided to just ignore it since I couldn't really comprehend anything at the moment.

No one said anything on our way to our rooms. I didn't know how to feel knowing that our team captain and my older sister was gone. Who would keep us on track, keep my anger to a minimum, and who would calm Lizzie down? We needed her in more ways than she could have ever known. I should have said something or done something instead of letting them drag me out of the room where Amber was slowly dying inside. She didn't live a long life. She died of the age of 17 and for half of her life, she was kept away from society never knowing what was actually going on. Maybe if I used my god damn superpowers I would have able to save her instead of breaking down and doing nothing.

Amber hated everything and everyone at least she had us. The funny thing is that one day out of the blue she said,"Friends are the people you hate the least." And with that she just walked away without saying another word. I always thought she meant that she didn't hate us that much but I finally understood it today. She loved us more than anything and she kept us safe even risking her life in the processes. It was her own special way of saying that she loved us more than anything in the whole entire corrupted world.

That night I couldn't shake off the feeling that I knew she was alive. But what could I do? My soul wasn't detecting hers anywhere and even if I did manage to escape, where would I even begin to look for her? I kept thinking about it until my anger got the best of me. I was blinded by anger to realize what I had done. I took one look at the compound and I found it destroyed and in flames. I did this? I looked around the destroyed building to see scientist and guards covered in their own blood with a horrified expression on each and everyone. I started panicking and I started running up the flight of stairs that still stood standing towards everyones bedrooms. I found everyone huddled up in Lizzie's room not even looking at me. "We need to leave. This is our chance to escape." "Do you have any idea of what you just caused?" asked Alex. "I know but..." "But what Max?" "Amber's alive and if you don't want to come and find her with me then so be it but I'm going to find her." I said while walking away from them. "Wait!" shouted Lizzie. I turned around and I saw the whole gang coming along for our quest to find Amber. "Lets get started."

It started raining and lightning attacked the sky as we made our way off of the island the compound was on. I put up my hood and kept walking towards the edge of the island. "What now?" I asked. "We can just teleport. Use your brain, Max." grinned Alex. I just had to grin with Alex. Alex can make anyone laugh, smile, or grin even if he wasn't trying to. He had a special effect on people and I guess thats why Amber liked him so much. "How are you going to teleport everyone?" asked Lizzie. "Josh, create a force field around us." And Josh did as he was told. Once we were inside the purple orb that Josh created, Alex teleported us all at once. Considering the fact that Alex barely even went to our daily classes, he was smart.

We ended up in front of the huge wall that separated our society from the rest of the world. It was impossible to break it down and it served a purpose of protection and restriction for the nation. "We're here now. How are we supposed to blend in with society now?" asked Alex. "Maybe if we just kept our hoods up and if we went to the center of town we could figure out whats been happening since we were gone." said Lizzie. "Okay, but how are we supposed to teleport in to town without everyone freaking out and trying to kill us once they look at our eyes?" Asked Josh. "Easy." smiled Alex while taking off with me running behind him while Lizzie got on top of Josh's shoulders. After running for a few minutes, we arrived at and iron door that was covered by trees and vines making it nearly impossible to see it. "How do you know about this?" I asked. "I just stumbled upon it when I was running from the guards." replied Alex nonchalantly. "You're just as bad as Amber." said Josh with a smile tugging at his lips.
