No one knows why universes exist, it was forgotten; even the gods that control and manipulate them don't know anything about it; the universes that "don't" exist knows...
The theory of how reality exists was The First Light. This light created the first universe that existed. But this universe also had darkness, the shadow of this light. This was known as The First Dark. The Light created energy and matter while the Dark created gravity and shadows on objects. They eventually combined forces to make galaxies, solar systems, planets, elements, and life as well. This universe came to its peak of prosperity after a millennium past when this happened. That was when the darkness; the minions created by the Dark decided to betray their god and kill him. Then the Dark's power transferred to the Light since there had to be a equilibrium of darkness and light. The Light no more was the light after that...
The darkness however still existed and declared war on the former first light which caused it to choose light guardians: beings of life with potential to counter attack the darkness. Unfortunately there was too much darkness they could've handled, so much so some
Light Guardians even got corrupted. The ones that got corrupted then attacked the Light as well and are now called Dark Beserkers. The darkness realized that they too can choose life forms with potential to fight. The former first light decided to do one last ditch effort to get rid of this dark uprising. It decided to split the universes into an infinite amount of pieces, this creating a multitude of dimensions and layers of reality. By doing so it killed light, but the life force and energy from it distributed throughout the multiverse. The darkness was left in universes that had no life, energy, or matter. But there was some type of darkness created in the new universes that were filled with matter and energy. They have no clue on what they are so they just call themselves at first The Shadows. This seems to prove as a success to the former light for now...
