I watch as ladies and gentle men, girls and boys bounce around the room.
"What a wonderful Christmas party this year," I whisper in North's ear. "Christmas is always wonderful!" He guffaws. I chuckle at his remark.
Then I notice Jack making his way through the crowd. "Jack, wh-what are you doing here?" Jack scarcely ever attends these balls. He enjoys solitude.
"Hey Tooth, I just.. Came to say hi." He scratches his hair. "Oh," I say. I wonder if he'll ask me for a dance.
I imagine Jack Frost holding my hand, galloping me across the ball room.
I imagine Jack Frost kissing my hand and asking, "May I care for a dance? My lady." I realise those words had blurted out of my mouth.
North and Jack stare at me in perplexity and shock. I feel my face burning. Turning bright, tomato red. "Ohh. I was practising a script I learn't off a tv show." I scratch my head.
Jack gives me a reassuring glance and a smile forms on his face. "So.. You're an actor now?" He asks.
"No, I'm the Tooth Fairy, Jack." I correct him. Jack laughs and pats me on the shoulder.
Later that night I had a day off. A night when I doze off and dream of Teeth. I only ever have time for sleep once a week, or a month even.
I spend the rest of the night on my King-sized bed thinking about Jack Frost. Wondering. Will he ever return my feelings? Will he ever ask for that dance? Will he ever ask me on one of those dates people go on?
As soon as I open my eyes, I see something materialise. A shape of a person. A woman. "Who's there?" I push myself up. "It's only me," says a voice of a woman. It's.. It's Cupid. "Cupid?" "What are you doing here?" I gasp. "Come," she says.
The next thing I know I'm hit by red light. As I open my eyes, everything around me spins. When I come back into focus I find myself in a golden apartment. Cupid's mansion.
As I look around, I spot her. Dressed in a red princess-like dress, red velvet gloves and long, silky pink hair flowing around her shoulders. Cupid's hair changes colour every now and then. Sometime red, sometimes black, blue even. She likes the unnatural colours.
I spot her bow and arrow hanging around her shoulder. The kind she uses to make people fall in love. Her little minions flying around her household like lost insects - They remind me of my fairies.
"Uhh, hey, Cupid. Why am I here?" I ask. Her red lips turn into a grin. "I heard your'e having trouble winning the love of your life," she says. "What!" I get up confused and aggravated. "Jack Frost," she sighs. "The handsome, cunning, winter spirit. After all these centuries he never notices you! You're waiting for him to make a move!" She moves closer to me, resting a hand on my shoulder.
"Honey, I just wanted to give you some friendly advice. It's the twenty-first century! Pull yourself together girl! Woman have rights now. Go get your man. TELL HIM HOW YOU FEEL, ask him out!" I notice her enormous, eagle-like wings fluttering on her back as she screams at me.
But she's right. It is the twenty-first century. It's not like back then. Maybe I should give it a try, maybe he's waiting for me to make a move because he doesn't have the confidence - but then again Jack is a very confident person - . "Yes! Yes!" I scream and hug the spirit of love. "But if you wanted to help me, why didn't you just shoot one of your cupid's arrows at him?" I ask. Cupid smirks. Her pink hair turns a shade of black and before I know it, her hair had grown five inches longer, and jet black. "I don't shoot them, darling. The arrows shoot themselves." She hugs me.
In a snap of a finger I was in my room again. Sitting on my bed still staring into the eyes of Cupid. She winks at me and disappears in a blink of an eye leaving a trail of pink smoke.
