Three hours later, I’m starting to regret I agreed to anything related to that TV show. People DIED in The Hunger Games. Would people really die in this show as well? Don’t be stupid Jess, it’s only a TV series! With this in mind, I hurry down to the kitchen, where my mum is trying to finish off the script for the latest movie that my dad is directing, Iron Man 3.

“Mum, do we have The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins?”

“Of course honey, in my study, next to the Harry Potter books. What do you need them for?”

“Documenting. I’m going to be in a TV series.”

“Oh? What about Mary?

“Donno. Let me call Larry.”

“Sure. His number is in the Directors book in your dad’s study.”

“Mum, he’s the director of Mary, which just happens to be the movie I play in. I have his number”.

Hitting the call button, I wait for Larry to pick up. After the tenth ring, I think about hanging up, but just then Larry’s voice booms from the other end.

“Hello Jessica, my favourite actress in the whole world. How’s old LA?”

“Wait, you’re not in LA? Where the heck are you Larry? We’re supposed to be filming!”

“I’m not in LA sweetie.  I’m in New York, trying to get another tech team for our Mary.”

“We don’t have a tech team? Is that why you hooked me up with that TV series?”

“Of course, Jessica. You shouldn’t just sit on the couch all day while waiting for me to clean this mess. That’s why.”

“Geez, thanks for telling me now. Talk later.”

“Bye Jessica. Have fun!”  Not that was all settled. I hurry towards mum’s study and grab the book from the shelf. The book that is supposed to help me get ready for this show.

Half way through the book, I stop. One, because I have take a break from so much reading, two, because it’s not at all what I expected to find and three, because I forgot to call Tess, my best friend. So I put the book down, grab a pack of cigarettes and head outside on the balcony. Taking out my phone, I call Tess.

“Jess! You called! Finally! I was starting to think that you forgot about me today. What’s up?” It’s always good to hear Tess. She’s cheerful all the time.

“No Tess, I didn’t forget. Jus’t didn’t have time to talk. I’m gonna be on a new Tv series and I need to prepare myself.”

“OMG, no way! Congrats Jess! It’s great!” There’s a pause before she goes on. “Nut what about Mary? You were so excited! It was gonna be your debut movie! You were gonna be a STAR!”

“It’s still gonna happen Tess. I haven’t given it up, don’t worry.” The laugh on the other end of the line tells me that she believes me.

“Thank God Jess. You know how I would hate it if you didn’t reach fame like I always said you would. I’ll totally freak!”

“Well, that’s not gonna happen.”

“Good. So, what’s this TV series? A new Gossip Girl?”

“No, Tess. Gossip Girl is finished. It’s called The Hunger Games TV series.”

“No freaking way! Jess, that’s sick! They DIE in the movie. Except Katniss, but you have to eat poisonous berries.”

“Tess, calm down. It’s just a TV show for crying out loud!”

“Yes, you’re right. Sorry.”

“Thank you. Geez!”

“But who the hell thought  of the name. It’s horrible!”

“Yes, not very original, but whatever.”

“You’ll have to stop smoking, though!” I look at the cigarette between y fingers. Looking next to me I spot the other cigarette butts that I carelessly threw on the floor. Tess brings me back to our conversation.

“Yes, I’m here Tess.”

“So? Will you? Stop smoking?”

“NO! I don’t have to. I can smoke in breaks.”

“Jessica McStanley! You have been smoking too much lately! And you promised! BEFORE Mary. You still haven’t quit.” I sigh. She’s determined today. I have no way out of this one.

“ Fine. I’ll try.”

“Really try this time?”

“Really try.”

“I love you! I have to go, but don’t forget to tell EJ about the TV show as well. Bye!” And she hangs up.
