It was even colder at night than it was during the day. Taking my mother's advice from the other day, I had secured the beanie onto my head. I pulled it down over my forehead for some identity protection as well. I had snuck out of the house without my mother noticing, then I sprinted all the way to Cherry Park.

Jason was dressed in similar attire, except for one thing. He looked gorgeous while I looked like scrap. I was wearing hand-me-down clothes and he was dressed like a princess. Good for him. I smiled at him, making sure not to call him a princess in real life. It was something that should stay in my head.

We exchanged no words, just a brief nod of acknowledgement. The park itself was massive, and we would like have to do some searching. It was only 11:20 anyway, so we weren't short of time. 'Jason. Lets check around,' I whispered.

The stillness of the night surrendered to Jason's monstrous sneeze. I didn't make any movement as his sneeze reached the edges of the park and beyond. Neither did he. Glancing at his face, it was pretty sure that he also realised his careless mistake. Idiot.

Now that our presence had been kindly broadcasted for everyone to hear, we didn't have to do any searching. We just stood there, freezing and defensive. A mob of drunk partying teenagers were throwing up nearby. Well, they were probably not close at all, but the fact that they could be heard was enough to scare us. As we were listening to their antics, we let our guard down a little. We forgot to keep a lookout and concentrated purely on their noise. A figure was behind us, and as soon as I realised this, I froze and straightened. Jason sensed it too, but instead of doing nothing, he took action.

He fiercely leapt at the figure behind us, doing an impressive 180 degree jump-turn angled so his butt would take down whoever it was. A shriek echoed through the neighbourhood as soon as Jason connected. They both landed on the hard ground and the high-pitched voice screamed even louder. Then, noticing her mistake just as Jason had, she shut up.

'Im sorry. I didn't mean to startle you guys.' she seemed genuinely apologetic.

'Its fine,' Jason took control, 'I'm sorry for the tackle, too.' Jason seemed less genuine. The rat.

'It's too dark... Just gimme a sec-' she fumbled a little, and then a burst of light shattered into our eyes. A torch beam radiated from below her face, pointing directly up. She looked like she was naturally beautiful, but from the angle she was showing us, she looked like a total maniac.

'Im Anita. I... I'm 19, and I'm in uni. I'm studying psychology. I love psychology. Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. Psychology, like, totally kicks ass.' Awesome. I seemed to attract weirdos; first the blue-haired twig, now this psychology nut. I should have felt somewhat proud of my skills, but honestly, I felt like a freak. I am a freak. It's true.

'Oh, well I'm Leon,' I said uneasily, 'so, psychology? Cool. Haha. And this here's Jason. Sorry about all that. So why are you here this late at night?'

'As a defence mechanism, people often put their fears out to show that they aren't scared. I'd like to bounce the question back at you. You have nothing to hide, right?' She stared deep into my eyes. Argh. This was horrible.

'Well I asked first... But ok, fine. We're here because we needed to meet someone. And what about you?'

'Im here because I was summoned here. And, who knows, maybe to find the answer to life. It's always plausible.' God, she was really starting to creep me out.

Thinking we could trust her, we missed something. Something very important. Something I noticed too late.

In her other hand, she was wielding a knife.
