Chapter 1: Revenge

My boots sank into the soil as I walked towards the small little cottage situated on the hill. I needed help, and fast. I was soaked from head to toe and the wound in my shoulder was dripping blood steadily. I was losing way too much blood and my shoulder was going numb. The pain was unbearable, especially when salt water from my sodden shirt rubbed against it.

I thought back to what he said.

"I'm sorry."

Those two words changed my life. I was on my own. There was nobody who could help me. HQ would soon receive the news that I was dead and Niall had already made his choice. It was either his career or me.

He didn't choose me.

Memories started going through my mind. Memories of our times together, the mission, when I first received the file...

"Victoria Leia, HQ has decided to put you up in one if the most dangerous missions. The objective is to infiltrate Modest's system to find out what they are planning against us. Your target would be Niall James Horan, agent 008 of Modest. He was recruited into Modest in Ireland and he is 20 years old. The rest of his information is in this file... So, are you in?"

"How much are you going to pay me?" I relaxed on the black plastic chair, glancing at the censored face, smirking slightly.

"It depends on how well you do the job."

I shook my head quickly. I needed to focus. Looking up, I realized that I was at the cottage.

The cottage's walls were made of worn, red bricks with ivy climbing up the side. There were flowers everywhere and there was even smoke coming out of the chimney. It was like straight out of a fairytale.

I hesitantly knocked on the sturdy wooden door lightly. I heard footsteps approaching.

'Hurry up,' I pleaded silently in my head. My vision was turning black around the edges. My gunshot wound was losing too much blood and I was quickly slipping into a state of unconsciousness.

"Hello?" An old lady peeked around the open door, her eyebrows furrowing. She was in a white nightgown. Her salt and pepper hair was like a grey halo over her head.

"Help." I managed to croak out before my knees gave out and I fell, hitting my head hard on the steps and blacking out.

•*•*•*•

"Wake up."

"Come on, wake up!"

I shot up on my bed, my hands searching for my gun to protect me. The old lady from the cottage sat beside my bed, holding a bowl of broth.

"Here, drink this."

I took a sip of the soup and winced as a sharp pain erupted from my shoulder. I felt for my wound and my fingers brushed some gauze taped on my shoulder.

"I've taken out the bullet and stitched it up. You'll be fine." The old lady smiled soothingly at me.

"What happened?" I hesitantly asked.

"After you blacked out, I brought you to the bed where I took out the bullet and stitched up your wound. You've been out since then. It's been about a day, in fact.".

A day? Shit. I was wasting too much time. I had to get my revenge on Niall. Wait.

Niall. He shot me. I was supposed to be killed but I wasn't. He missed me. And it was a wrong move. I won't be "nice" Tori anymore. And now it was payback time.

I stood up, grabbed my rucksack, my gun and my phone. There was no time to waste.

"Thanks." I called over my shoulder, already halfway out the door.

If only I looked back, I would've seen the knife the old lady pulled out. I would've seen her take aim.

Hearing the whoosh of a knife cutting through the air, I whipped around, narrowly missing the weapon flying past me.

"You aren't going anywhere, Tori."

"What? How did you know my name?" I snapped, holding my gun out threateningly.

"Go ahead. Shoot." She held her hands up, puffing her chest out. I glared at her and pulled the trigger.

Click.

The bullet chamber was empty. That cunning little-

"I'm Agent 526 of HQ and you are Agent 001, Victoria Leia. I'm here to take care of you, and to make sure you don't do anything silly, like running off to save your ex-boyfriend." She smiled triumphantly at me.

I walked closer to her and jabbed a finger in her face. The closer I walked, I could actually see that she wasn't that old. There were wrinkles drawn messily around her eyes that aged her by at least 10 years. She was probably only about what, 30, tops?

"If you think you're going to get away from this, you're dead wrong."
