Summary: Harry is hiding behind a persona of popularity and reputations, too afraid to admit who he really is and Louis is the golden boy who sees not so straight through him.
Louis Tomlinson, he mused to himself. That was him, the one and only Louis Tomlinson. One of the only three boys at Belleview High Academy to have come out of the “closet,” and the used-to-be favorite victim, now boyfriend of the one boy who truly couldn’t change, even if he tried to hide it. The only boy who could see through his lies and denials to find a boy afraid of truly being himself and loving the only one he wanted to love. But let’s start this story at the beginning shall we?
Since coming out of the closet, Louis has received a good helping of abuse; verbal and physical from his loving and supportive peers and friends (though he had no friends at the moment except for his best mates Liam and Zayn, who happened to be dating). He had been betrayed and belittled by everyone else as soon as he had come out, not as if he expected any less. This daily ration of abuse mainly from a boy, superior to himself, Harry Styles. Maybe it was the fact that Louis was one of the most accepting and open-minded people that you’ll ever meet, or maybe it was his up to par gay-detector; but Louis knew that Harry was in a vast state of denial for his true self and never held him accountable for his actions. He was a big boy and a few measly insults had nothing on him. Louis just knew it could take a few years, most likely after University before Harry understood and accepted his true self. And that was just fine.
Styles and his accomplice, best friend Niall Horan have had it out for him since he came out in Freshman year. Fast forward three years and they’re going at it just as strong. The major difference between Harry and Louis is that while Harry has the friends and reputation that anyone would want, he’s a scared puppy who would never risk losing any of it; it’s all he has. On the other hand, Even though Louis is well-known around the school, one would not label him as popular. But that’s just fine because Louis has his best friends and his true identity so what more could ever want? Possibly the ability to forget about the lanky fellow that never fails to catch his attention; but then again, when someone is tripping you in the cafeteria and you fly to the ground with your lunch spilling every where, wouldn’t your attention be caught too?
Harry’s definitely known for having a reputation. He goes though girls by the dozens, as if trying to get a taste out of all of them. The one thing about Harry that surprises everybody is how he never seems to break a single heart. Any girl that has been with him can tell you the same thing, they desire to be able to tell you one bad thing about him; but they simply can’t. Although, Louis can. Louis truly does not hate this boy, if not, the opposite. Louis is not one for patience and this boy seems to take a hell of a lot of time to ditch the confusing act, and show his true self.
So you can imagine his surprise when Harry Styles, captain of the football team, his main tormentor, straight-as-a-pin (pshh), Harry Styles comes up to Louis and asks him on a date. Louis is shocked and suspicious, suspicious being the understatement of the century. But Louis is even more shocked when he hears himself reply, “Alright, tonight. Melrose Square Park, 8:30, don’t be late.” Harry seems perplexed at Louis’ almost automatic answer, as if Louis had almost imagined Harry asking him this question before, as Harry himself, despite that he tried to deny it, had often imagined doing to Louis. Harry knew it was wrong to like Louis like he did, but how could something that feels right, be so wrong? That was the question that kept Harry up most nights. How could liking someone as amazing as Louis be wrong? The answer was simple, he was a boy and Louis was a boy, and boys shouldn’t be anything more than brothers and friends.
