Fourteen

I woke up to the sound of sirens. I felt as if I was hanging upside down. I open my eyes and realize that my car was flipped upside down, my seatbelt was taking my breath away, I tried to get unbuckled but failed.

"Help!" I scream. I smelt smoke. "Oh God. Please help me!" I start to cough. I needed to get out before it exploded.

I feel two arms drag me out of the car. The man carried me bridal style to the ambulance.

"You're going to be okay. Just keep breathing."

Again I woke up to the sound of the heart monitor. I try to remember what happened but all that came to me was a blur of images.

"Hey." I look to my right to see Zayn and Liam.

"Hey.." I cough.

"How do you feel?" Liam asked with concern.

"I-i don't know."

"Shh baby, you have to get your rest." Zayn rubs my forehead.

"What happened?" I take a deep breath, it feels like an elephant is sitting on my chest.

"Oh sweetie, do you remember anything?" Liam asked.

"Remember what?"

"You were in a car crash. You have three broken ribs. None of your ribs hurt the baby, which is good. But you did puncture your right lung. You suffered some major head trauma too." Zayn explained.

"You're lucky to be alive!" Liam grabs my hand and gently squeezes. I rub my belly with my other hand, I smile to Liam and Zayn.

"Where's everybody else?" I notice that there is only Liam and Zayn in the room.

Liam gives Zayn a sad glance.

"Niall is at work, they wouldn't let him take off. Harry and Veronica are stuck in traffic because of the weather." Zayn replies.

"Is the person I hit okay?" I ask, now starting to panic.

"Yeah, he is." Zayn sighs.

"What?" I ask a little confused. Zayn sounded very annoyed.

"Ashton Irwin hit you." Zayn replies.

I freeze at the name, he did say he was going to kill me if I didn't stay away from Louis.

"It was accident. Well that's what he says. But personally I think it was on purpose." Liam rolls his eyes.

There was a knock on my door, a nurses pops her head in and smiles. "Ashton would like to see you." She steps aside and Ashton walks in, the nurse closes the door.

"Hello Rachel." Ashton smirks.

"What are you doing in here?" I growl.

"Whoa! Can't a guy just check on his favorite girl?" Ashton's grin grows wider.

"I'm not your girl." I sneer.

"Everybody wants a little piece of Ashton." He winks.

"You're sick!" I spit out.

"I did warn you." Ashton's tone grows lower.

"You did this on purpose?" I shriek.

"I did warn you. But you didn't listen."

"Why.. Why would you do that? You could have hurt my baby!" I cry.

"Not my problem." Ashton smirks. "I will be seeing you later." He leaves the room.

"He isn't going to get away with it." I say as soon as the door closes.

"He already has." Liam sighs.

"He told the police that you were speeding right behind him, that you tried to bump into him many times. A corner came along you skidded right into Ashton." Zayn explains.

I turn on my side to not face them anymore. They are not going to sit there and watch me cry. I hear Zayn and Liam whisper to each other.

"Rachel, we will be right back. There is someone here to see you and the doctors won't let them in for some odd reason." Liam kisses my head, then leaves with Zayn.

I must have dozed off, because when I woke, Louis was crying at my bedside, his face buried in his arms. I ran my fingers through his feather like hair.

"Rachel." He cries.

"Louis.." I cough.

"I'm here." He grabs my hand and kisses it.

"I'm s-sorry." I say in a hushed tone

"No baby, I'm the one who is sorry. I'm so sorry for everything. You may not believe me but these past few weeks have been hell for me. I will make it up to you.. I promise." He rubs my head, getting his fingers tangled in my hair. "I'm in love with the most beautiful girl in the world. You are filled with beauty in every form." Louis smiles to me.

"Louis.." I breath out heavily. I feel my eyes flutter shut, breathing doesn't become so easy anymore. I'm gasping for air, I can hear Louis yelling for a nurse and begging me to stay with him.

"Rachel! Can you hear me?" The nurse opens one of my eyes and shines a light through, it's like a light at the end of a very dark tunnel.
