Maeve's POV

I was looking at Spencer knowing that I looked terrified. I was of course because Diane was holding a gun to my head and her arm around my neck. Then I saw Spencer's team come in behind him all their guns trained at Diane. "Let her go." Spencer said his gun also pointed at her. When he realized that it wasn't going work he put his gun away and held his hands up. "How about a trade? Me for her." Spencer tried to compromise. No. What was he thinking? He can't take my place. He has to much too lose. After he said that Diane started sobbing and saying that he would die for me and she wouldn't stop complaining. I don't know where the words came from but after Spencer had finished talking I said, "Thomas Merton." He turned his stare to me. "Thomas Merton." He mumbled back. "Who's Thomas Merton?" Diane asked looking back and forth between Spencer and me. When neither one of us answered she kept pushing. "Who is he? Who's Thomas Merton?" She asked frantically. Still staring at Spencer I answered her. "He's someone you can never take away from us." She pursed her lips together then looked between us again. Then she started to move her gun. I knew that this was it. That I was going to die. But in a split second Spencer took out his gun and shot. I felt Diane's arm slip and felt her drop to the ground. I didn't have to turn around to know that she was dead. But I knew what I had to do. "Spencer." I said. I started moving towards him and we met in the middle. I wrapped my arms around him and made sure to hold on tight. "Thank you." I couldn't stop saying that even when I told myself to stop. "I love you Maeve." He whispered. I wasn't surprised or shocked that he had said that. Probably because I loved him too. "I love you too Spencer." I said feeling safe with him. During our embrace one of Spencer's coworkers came up behind him and clapped him on the back saying, "Great job Reid." We stood in our hug a little longer until the coroner came and hefted Diane on to the stretcher. It was all over. Once we pulled away Spencer grabbed my hand and held tight. We walked out of the building together and sat next to each other in the car. Spencer has always told me that he wasn't one for physical touch so it had surprised me when he held my hand. They took me back to the BAU where they made sure that I was okay and that I wasn't hurt. After I assured them all that I was okay they all scattered in different directions. I went to find Spencer and finally I found him in a room where I guessed they met about cases. His back was to me as he was facing a TV screen. "So where do you think things will go from here?" I asked from the doorway. "Where ever they do go I want to be with you every step of the way." He said turning to me. I could tell he was serious and I wasn't about to reject him. It would be nice having Spencer around to help me. And as my boyfriend. "Okay." I said simply. "Thank you." He said walking over to me. "No thank you. If it wasn't for you and your team I would be dead right now." I said smiling at him. "I could use something to eat right about now. Care to join me?" I asked holding out my hand. Spencer have me this cute genuine smile and grabbed my hand. "I'd love too."
