*Kat's POV*
I grumbled as I sat at my stool. The shop hadn't been too busy, the occasional costumer popping in for a visit. I hummed a tune under my breath, boredom overtaking me in waves as I sat doing nothing in the empty shop. I began doodling on some post it's, making a little animation as I flipped through pages, and faintly heard the bell on the door ding as it was open.
"Hi, Welcome." I said half heartedly.
"Gee, thanks for the warm welcome, Kitty Kat." I completely froze at the sound of the cocky voice resounding through the room.
"Jason?" He leaned into the counter, his face way too close to mine.
"The one and only." He smirked. I resisted the urge to smack him. He leaned away from me and surveyed the room, leaving me to inspect various delectable goods. I tried to calm my raging heartbeat. Why was he like this? One minute he was like an adorable 5 year old, and then the next he was a cocky flirtatious bad boy. I wanted to strangle him for it! I wasn't even attracted to him...a lot. At all! I'm not attracted him at all. Kinda...
I turned my attention back to him. He had stacked a handful of items in his arms, ranging from cupcakes to cookies to cinnamon buns. I felt my tummy rumble. I had been banned from eating in the shop...and that included Misfit Sweets. My tummy had been rumbling in disagreement my whole shift. I would have to talk to Aunt May about it soon...
"Helloooo? Anyone there?" My thoughts were interrupted by someone snapping their fingers in front of my face. Jason. I whacked his hand out of the way.
"What?" I snapped.
"I've been ready like ten minutes, Kat. What, you get distracted by beautiful face?" He flashed me a charming smile. I practically gagged.
As I ring up the items, Jason stares at me intently. I want to tell him to get of my case and leave me alone. But also I never want him to stop. What is this? I've never felt this way about some loser boy before. I don't even know what it is I'm feeling! As I ring up the last item, I finally meet his gaze.
"Okay, your total is-" I stopped short when my stomach let out another roaring growl through the room. Jason stared at me. I stared back. "Uhh...just ignore that." I stuttered out. He stared some more. I cleared my throat. I fidgeted. He stayed stone still. I grew annoyed.
"Listen, just pay for the stuff and-" he put a finger to my lips and shushed me. Guess I just wasn't supposed to get out a full sentence today. He threw a twenty dollar bill down on the counter, then jumped up and sat down cross legged in front of me. "What-" he shushed me again, and I let out a loud groan. Setting his purchased items on his lap, he began delicately unwrapping certain items and setting them into piles. I watched curiously, putting the money he gave me into the cash register as I did. It was actually a bit too much for what he actually bought, but I didn't mention it, choosing to think of it as a tip to spite him for annoying me.
"There!" He cried out triumphantly. He pointed to a large pile next to him. "This ones mine..." He then pointed to the one closer to me, the slightly smaller pile. "...and that ones yours!" He looked pleased with himself. I looked the opposite.
"No no no no no." I said. "I don't want your food. No thank you. Besides, I'm not allowed to eat the goods in the shop." I shrugged out the last part. He looked annoyed with me.
"Eat them. You're hungry. Besides, technically they aren't the shop's goods anymore. They're mine. And I'm in a sharing mood." He looked at me slyly. "C'mon...you know you want 'em..."
I'm not gonna lie, I was tempted. Very tempted. But I felt hesitant. "Why though? Why are you doing this? What's your angle?" My speculation was clear in my words.
"Because." He said.
"Because why?"
"Because I like you."
He stared at me unabashedly, and my face flushed red. What did that mean? Did he mean as a friend? Or as something more? Why did I even care? Why was I so embarrassed by him saying that??
I finally managed to get out a small "oh", and then proceeded to stuff my face with the food he had offered up. I didn't even care if I like like a troll right now, I just needed a distraction.
I watched as Jason delicately ate his food, taking extra care to appreciate each bite of the food. He must really like sweets, I thought to myself.
We sat, silently eating, until we both finished the food. I let out a satisfied hum, patting my now full belly in appreciation. Jason slid off the counter, readying himself to leave.
"Wait!" I said hurriedly. He looked up at me questioningly. "Uh...Thanks." I scratched the back of my neck awkwardly.
"It was no big deal." He said casually.
"Well, I really appreciated it." I said with finality, squaring my shoulders and actually looking at him face on. I felt the hint of blush invading my features, and I wanted to smack myself for it.
He hadn't said anything, just looking at me, unblinking, unmoving. The. He moved closer to me, stepping right in front of me. "Really, it's no big deal." He reached a hand out to my face, caressing my cheek softly. My heart raced, and I probably looked like a tomato standing in front of him. I was suddenly very conscious of how I looked, and I resisted the urge to smooth out my hair. "Like I said, I like you."
I don't know why I didn't expect what happened next. It was pretty obvious, but I didn't have much experience with boys, so I didn't know what to think. But the second he pressed his lips against mine, I didn't have to think at all.
"I like you too."
