Rob dropped me back off at home, saying something about raising havoc with an old man that lived on the outskirts of the kingdom. Whatever. Hopefully he doesn't get himself executed. Ungh, no more thoughts of execution. Idiot. My father wasn't home yet so it didn't matter how I got in so I slipped through the weathered old door. Aviva was sitting on the rocking chair in the crocheting with a ball of bright purple wool. Wonder where she got that. We never have any colors other than whites, greys, and blacks. Whatever, I'm sure she got it legally. Our father is the executioner, I wonder if he would even hesitate to swing the axe down on one of his own children's necks. I hate to think about the answer to that.
"Hi" Aviva whispered, she rarely speaks any louder than that.
"Hey" I said back, compared to her i sound like a dead girl. Well, even without the comparison my voice is just dead. So is my soul.
"Where were you" she asked
"Walking around with Rob"
"Okay" she paused "who was killed this time?"
That girl knows everything.
"A man"
"Okay"
"Yeah, everything is okay Vivie"
"Serenity?" she asked in a barely audible voice
"Yes?"
"I'm sorry for what's about to happen to you."
She is scary. I think she's been talking to a witch. Hell, she may even be one. Honestly there isn't anything wrong with that, they are people too, but they have more abilities and different ways of doing things. They get executed if they are found. I couldn't let Aviva get executed. What does she mean by "I'm sorry for what's about to happen to you."? She is never wrong. Something horrible is about to happen.
"Serenity, I am so very sorry. You are going to have to make some very major decisions for all of us. I love you."
"I love you too Aviva, we will be alright. Everything is going to be fine."
What does she mean? I could feel my heart racing as I heard father come through the door walk up behind me.
"Go to your room" he said gruffly
"Yes father" Aviva and I said at the same time, moving quickly towards the stairs.
Aviva opened the door to our room, Forrest was sitting on the floor holding Ivory and playing with her. They were both smiling. Aviva stepped into the room but as I went to follow her I heard father swear and what sounded like his axe fell to the ground followed by a dull thud, I think of father himself. Aviva turned to look at me, an eerie expression on her face.
"This is the beginning of the end, Serenity."
I turned quickly and rushed down the stairs Where I had been standing just before father had come home there was the axe, firmly planted in the floor. Father was right on top of it, his head on either side of the axe. I say that because half was on the floor on one side and the other half was on the opposite side. Father was dead.
