"The undead aren't actually dead. The title is very misleading." He spoke out to the group of people in front of him as they gripped onto every word he drawled out. He stood on the overhead cat walk looking down at the nervous tension in the warehouse they stood in. His hair was tousled and the color he had permanently put in months ago was barely recognizable. He leaned forward and rested his arms on the metal rail.
"Luke?" He turned towards the blond boy, his right hand man.
"Yeah Mike?" his soft boy spoke out and stepped forward so the two of them were on the same plane.
"I need you to debrief the few who just got back from scavenge and see what is left around here... And take Beth; she would be miserable without you." He snarled out staring at one of the two girls sitting on the left of him.
Beth stood up in her cargo pants and dark jacket and followed Luke down the frighteningly unsafe ladder that lead to the ground. Luke stared down the people whom he knew just returned from outside. He jerked his head signaling for them to follow him to the underground bunker.
Michael still stood above everyone as he always liked to be above. There was a rustle of sound as the 20 or so people still left below started talking in low voices. There was nothing they could do right now until Michael knew how many were hanging around or what the recourses looked like. He couldn't do anything and it pissed him off.
"HEY" He barked and everyone shut up immediately. He pushed himself off of the bar, walking along the railing. He kept his eyes on the people he passed, giving them a feeling of fear and a chill down their spine.
"WE don't know what's going on in the outside world right now do we? There are literally people walking out there who are no longer people. Their brains are screwed up with the parasitic disease that infected most of the world. Everyone we knew would like to bite us and eat us and we can't stop them unless we actually kill them. This sucks balls I know but we have to deal with it. If you don't want to then there's the door, but when it's time I will not hesitate to shoot you in the face." His voice dripped with venom as he scared everyone once again into obedience. He stopped moving as the crowd shuffled back frightened for their lives honestly. Michael nodded with a soft "good" happy that everyone knew their place.
"T come on" He spoke to his girlfriend who was sitting up with him the whole time. He left down the ladder jumping down the last few steps and reached the ground. His girlfriend wasn't far behind, stepping onto the concrete floor and fixing his heavy jacket. T unbuttoned a few buttons and smirked at him before she scurried away.
Michael surveyed the survivors in front of him, now eye level with the trembling figures. He easily dismissed them with furrowed eyebrows and walked away to find Luke.
"Luke! What's it look like?" He asked the boy as soon as he was within ear shot.
"Not as many as we thought were out there. But they shot down a bunch, which means we need more ammo. About five miles in a diagonal is what used to be a shopping center of sorts. The only problem is there were a bunch of 'em there so they couldn't check it out that much." Michael nodded as Luke spoke but when he dropped off he knew something was up.
"What is it?" Michael asked in his I'm-not-taking-no-shit voice.
"There's another group smaller than us and they appear to be on foot, no materials really. They were a good 10, 15 miles out. But they're there and coming this way." Luke wouldn't look his best friend in the eye through those two sentences so Michael grabbed him by the collar.
"And...?" He harshly whispered in his face.
"They think it might be C-calum and Ashton..." Luke squeaked out.
"Damnit" Was all Michael could say.
