There comes a time, no matter who you think you are, that you have to make a choice. Some know when their defining moment is, but most don't.

But as she stared at the key, her heart pounding and hands shaking, she knew. She didn't know how, and it didn't really matter, but she just knew that she could live up to her reputation of fearlessness, or simply hide behind it, like she always had.

The brassy gold color of the key glinted in the dim light of the lamp on her nightstand.

Her throat burned.

Now or never.

She clenched the key in her still shaking hand, the little teeth biting into her palm.

Now.

She stood up and walked out of her room without a backwards glance.

Only a lonely nightstand and open door were left as she walked to her future.
