"Christopher there is something I need to tell you," Melinda said to her husband as they were preparing for bed.
Turning to her he stopped what he was doing simply stating one word, "What?"
"I'm pregnant," she said her eyes lighting up.
Sighing in frustration he ran a hand down his face.
"Well there is something I need to tell you," he said as their three year old son Zachary ran into their room smiling happily at his mom.
"Young man, shouldn't you be in bed," Christopher growled in annoyance.
"I wanted to say goodnight to mommy," Zach said cowering behind his mother.
"Go to bed now!"
"Christopher! What has gotten into you?" Melinda said picking her son up and leaving the room consoling him.
"Daddy hates me mommy?" He whimpered.
"He doesn't hate you baby, he is just tired. Now you be a good boy and go to bed," she said told him before leaving his room.
Once back in their room Christopher simply stated.
"Here are our divorce papers. I cannot do this anymore. Once you sign them leave my house," he said turning to leave.
"Chris wait! Explain to me exactly what you mean by this," she said waving the papers. "This is my house and I am pregnant with our second child."
"That is not my child for all I care, I know who my children are. As for this house it is now under my name and so are the controlling shares for the company, you did sign them over to me remember," he said just as the doorbell rang.
Opening it she was surprised to see Chris engulf a blonde woman into a hug and kissing her passionately before her eyes.
"This is the mother of my unborn child," he said stepping aside for her to see the large baby bump.
Swallowing back her tears she realized that the rumours she had so desperately tried to ignore had been true. Her husband had indeed been cheating on her. The evidence stood right in front of her. Not to mention the fact he had stolen her company from her under cowardly presence.
"You can now go back to the gutters I picked you up from," he said as he ushered the woman further into the house.
Just those words made her realize that he had never really loved her. Going up the stairs she woke her son up and quickly packed a small bag for them leaving the house after signing the papers.
"I don't need anything associated with you except our son," she said taking off her wedding ring. "As for the company I built let's see if you will go far. Mark my words you will regret this."
Melinda's POV
He just looked at me with a smirk on his face. The woman who I had learnt was called Iris, was nowhere in sight. Leaving the penthouse, I said goodbye to the staff I had grown to know and love over the three years we had been together.
Walking down the deserted street I held my son closer to me pondering over why my life had turned this way. I had no family since I was an orphan and as for friends well let's just say my ex-husband had made sure I had none anymore.
The evening wind was picking up making me pull my coat over my son to protect him from the chill.
Out of nowhere two men jumped in front of me. The first thing that came into my mind was that I had to protect my babies.
"What's a pretty little thing like you doing all alone on such a cold night darling," one of them slurred showing his crooked teeth.
"Please don't hurt us," I whispered. "You can take our clothes that's all I have," I said as they cornered me into a dark alley.
Heaving the bag towards them I caught them unawares as they stumbled back in surprise. Telling Zach to run and get help I felt the hand of one of them around my wrist as he yanked me towards him before he gave me a punch that had me falling to the ground.
His accomplice landed a blow onto my eye whilst I felt a boot land on my stomach. Writhing in pain I took each blow as I lay in a foetal position trying to protect my child at all costs.
Lincoln's POV
"What the... Why did we stop," Lincoln said readjusting himself in his seat.
"Sire it seems to be a child."
"What do you mean a child? What is a child doing all alone out here, especially at night?"
Before Walter could respond they heard the child cry out for his mother.
Cursing under his breath he stepped out of his car before his door could be opened. Crouching down to the child's height he gruffly asked, "Where is your mother son?"
"Bad men," he mumbled as his lower lip trembled.
Realizing something was terribly wrong he turned to one of his man.
"Stay with the boy," he ordered. "Walter," he said heading towards the alley where he heard the cries of a woman and men laughing.
His blood boiled in rage as he saw them continuously beat the figure on the ground only to stop when they realized they were no longer alone.
"I need them alive," he said in a dangerously low tone as his men took off after the drunkards.
Crouching down he looked at the woman and quickly shrugged of his jacket. As he picked her up gently she breathed out a thank you before losing consciousness.
----------
Before losing consciousness I saw a large shadow looming over me as the other men scampered running away from other men.
"Thank you," was all I managed to whisper before darkness overtook me.
