Chapter Three
The cool air assaulted my face as we sprinted, my cloak flapped behind me in the wind it created.
The gravel crunched under my boots and I could only hope that we weren't making to much noise.
When we reached the stable I was out of breath, the short distance that we ran mixed with my anxiety didn't formulate well and I heaved loudly. Miss Athalia however, seemed unaffected by the run.
She opened the stable door and swung it open, revealing the twelve horses that made residence on our grounds. I had ridden two of them, riding lessons were very rare and usually we had a limited choice of which steed to ride.
"I'll take Yusin and you can take blue," she told me, I almost gasped at the name of the unrideable horse, blue.
"He's the fastest steed we have and we don't know if the invaders will have backup outside the gates," she reasoned, it sounded smart enough but I had witnessed what happens to some of the victims of blue's tantrums.
"Here saddle him up, make sure you stroke the left side of his face three times and twice on the right in that order before trying anything else, it's the signal I taught him to mean trust," she told me, holding a saddle in her outstretched arms.
"He's you're horse?" I asked, she shook her head and shrugged?
"No, he's a wild horse I found on the way here," she explained. I sighed and took the saddle from her arms.
"I've seen you ride Isa, you're talented," she told me, her hazel eyes holding the reassurance I needed.
"Strap your pack to the saddle and ill give the signal to start riding," she said and I nodded, heading to the spot blue was enclosed in.
I opened the door to reveal the majestic horse, like his name his black coat had a tint or navy blue, when I opened the door the moonlight reflected on his body giving him a magical aura.
His big black eyes watched as I approached, my left hand out stretched and my feet shuffling forward cautiously.
When he grunted I jumped back with a yelp, which caused him to back away. I scolded myself internally.
"It's okay," I said in attempt ofsoothing the horse, I started to approach blue again when I heard shouting.
I looked back at the horse and took a few bold steps, he neighed in protest. "It's okay, boy, I'm not going to hurt you," I told him, taking a few more steps.
I looked into his eyes and saw skepticism almost as if he was weighing up what I had said, "come on," I whispered, my hand moving towards his face.
I followed Miss Athalia's instructions and was granted compliance, the look in his eyes changed to one of understanding and he allowed me to come closer to him.
I hauled the saddle up off the ground where I had left it and saddled him up as fast as I could, my fingers fiddled around with the straps and my breathing intensified. I strapped the satchel on blues left side and my pack on the right.
